Event Director / Portfolio Director
Role Overview
We are looking for an ambitious, commercially minded Event Manager to take ownership of HR Tech Europe and drive the event forward.
This is a broad, hands-on role with responsibility across commercial performance, marketing, audience growth, event operations, content and overall event delivery. You will effectively act as the owner of the event, working cross-functionally with sales, marketing, operations, editorial and finance teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience and achieve the event's revenue and profitability targets.
With the Portfolio Director you will have accountability for the event P&L, using data, customer insight and knowledge to identify opportunities to grow revenue, attendance and profitability.
This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys having genuine ownership and wants to build and develop a major B2B event rather than simply manage individual elements of its delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & P&L
- Own the event P&L, revenue targets, budgets and profitability with the Portfolio Director
- Develop and execute the commercial strategy in partnership with the sales team
- Identify opportunities to grow exhibition, sponsorship, delegate and other revenue streams
- Work closely with Sales to develop propositions, packages and new commercial opportunities
- Monitor performance against budget and forecast regularly, taking corrective action where required
- Build strong relationships with exhibitors, sponsors, partners and other key customers
Audience & Marketing
- Own the overall audience growth strategy and attendance targets
- Work with Marketing to develop compelling campaigns that drive registrations, engagement and retention
- Use audience data, research and market insight to identify new sectors, personas and acquisition opportunities
- Develop partnerships, communities and promotional opportunities that extend the reach of HR Tech Europe
- Ensure the event proposition remains relevant, differentiated and compelling to senior HR decision-makers

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
