Help us bring our World Mental Health Day event to life!
We’re looking for an experienced events or creative engagement volunteer to help us develop fun, interactive activities that get people talking, connecting and, most importantly, feeling heard.
What difference will you make?
Your input will help us turn our World Mental Health Day event into something that people genuinely want to take part in, rather than simply another information event.
Leeds Involving People is all about making sure people have opportunities to share their experiences and have their voices heard. By bringing your professional skills and fresh ideas, you’ll help us create activities that encourage meaningful conversations, connection and participation in a welcoming and accessible way.
Your support will also give our small team additional creative capacity at a particularly busy time and allow us to try new approaches to community engagement.
Most importantly, your work will help create a day where local people can come together, talk openly about mental health and feel that what they have to say matters. The ideas and approaches developed through this event may also help shape how we deliver future community events and engagement activities.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone creative, practical and full of ideas who can help us make our World Mental Health Day event engaging and a little different.
Ideally, you’ll have at least three years’ professional experience in event planning, creative engagement, community engagement or a related field, with experience of developing activities or experiences that encourage people to participate.

We’d particularly value someone who

- Can work within a limited charity budget and make the most of the resources available
- Is approachable, organised and comfortable working as part of a small team

- Is sensitive when working around mental health and lived experience
You don’t need to be a mental health professional. The most important thing is that you bring strong events or engagement experience, creativity and an understanding of how to make people feel welcome and involved.
We’re very open to new ideas, so this would particularly suit someone who enjoys being given a brief and having the freedom to bring their own creativity to it.
What will you be doing?
Leeds Involving People is holding a World Mental Health Day event in Leeds city centre on Saturday 10 October 2026. This year’s focus is on the importance of talking, listening and being heard, and we want to create an event that feels genuinely engaging rather than a traditional information event.

We’re looking for an experienced events or creative engagement volunteer to work with our team in the lead-up to the event and help us develop activities that encourage people to get involved, connect with others and have their voices heard.
We already have the foundations of the event in place, so we’re not looking for someone to organise everything from scratch. Instead, we’d love someone who can bring fresh ideas and professional experience to help us make the day memorable.
Depending on your skills and interests, you could help us
- Develop creative and interactive activities for the event
- Think of interesting ways to get people talking and involved
- Design activities that allow people to share their thoughts and experiences
- Help us make the event welcoming and engaging for a wide range of people
- Consider the overall visitor experience and how the different elements of the event work together
- Help turn ideas into practical activities that we can deliver within our budget
- Support the team with final event planning
- Join us on the day, if available, to help bring the activities to life
You’ll work alongside the Leeds Involving People team, who will take care of the overall organisation, venue arrangements, safeguarding and practical delivery.
This is a short-term opportunity where your ideas could have an immediate impact, while also helping us develop approaches that we can use at future community events.
