Company Description

The Free Speech Union is a non-partisan, mass-membership public interest organization dedicated to defending the speech rights of its members. It focuses on protecting individuals’ ability to express lawful views without facing unfair professional or social penalties. The Union provides support, guidance, and advocacy to members who encounter challenges related to free expression. Role Description

The Events Coordinator will plan, organize, and deliver a range of in-person events, including panel discussions, lectures, workshops, and member gatherings. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Developing event concepts
  • Securing venues
  • Managing suppliers
  • Coordinating logistics
  • Overseeing event budgets

This is a full-time, on-site role based in the United Kingdom, requiring regular presence at events and office-based planning activities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in event planning and coordination, including venue sourcing, logistics management, and supplier liaison.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with speakers, partners, members, and colleagues.
  • Basic budgeting and financial tracking skills to manage event costs and report on expenditure.
  • Comfort with on-site event work, including set-up, troubleshooting, and engaging with attendees.
  • Proficiency with standard office and event management software; familiarity with online registration and ticketing tools is beneficial.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, showing sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Prior experience in membership organizations, advocacy, or the non-profit sector is an advantage.
  • Understanding of and interest in issues related to free expression, public debate, and civil liberties.
  • Relevant education or training in events management, communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred.
