The National Space Centre is the UK’s largest visitor attraction dedicated to space and space exploration, welcoming around a quarter of a million visitors each year since its opening in June 2001. Venue Hire is a vital part of the business, exploiting the highly themed surroundings of the award-winning building and exhibition to provide a unique experience. It has become firmly established as one of East Midlands’ unique, premier event’s venue; hosting 250 events and welcoming 16,000 corporate visitors per year. It offers a unique venue for a wide range of corporate events, from conferences to product launches, team building missions and evening dinners.

About the role
The National Space Centre is looking to recruit talented individuals to work as ‘Events Crew Bar Team Members’. We aim to deliver World Class parties and events for our guests, with amazing food and entertainment provided by our great members of staff!
Events Crew Bar Team Members will be required to:
- Greet guests
- Serve drinks
- Set up and clear down the bar during the events
Applicants should have proven experience within a customer-focused environment, working face-to-face with members of the public. Experience of working within in a bar staff role would be an advantage. You should have excellent communication skills and a flexible, adaptable and willing attitude towards work. Smart personal appearance and a passion for delivering high quality events are essential.
The role is casual. Working hours are usually from 5pm until the end of the event (expected early hours of the morning – the exact finish time will vary by event). There will be a requirement to work weekends during December due to Christmas Parties.

This role is offered on a zero-hours contract. Due to the event-based nature of the role, shifts will vary depending on when events are taking place and will not follow a fixed shift pattern. Shifts are allocated based on your availability and the shifts you would like to work, subject to event requirements and availability.
Rate of pay is £13.55 per hour.
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be 18 years of age or above to be able to serve alcohol.

Job Description
Purpose: To deliver a first class customer experience to all corporate guests with the support of the corporate events team and wider Space Centre team.
Reporting to: The Venue Hire Team
Liaising with: Head Chef, Kitchen Staff, Operations Team, Security Team, Technical Team and Housekeeping
Duties:
- Meet and greet corporate guests upon arrival
- Take part in bar set-up, service, and close-down as per shift required.
- Provide a high standard of customer service in delivering everything from arrival drinks, bar set-up & pre-ordered drinks
- Understand basic allergy information and where detailed product information can be found
- Efficient delivery of food and beverage to tables & from bar
- To support the operational team with controlling stock levels
- To operate tills with effective cash handling.
- Responsible for delivering quality service and up selling the National Space Centre where appropriate
- Dealing with general enquiries and customer service issues.
- Assist efficiently with event preparation and clear down correctly as per the event requirements and event team’s instructions.
- Ability to deal with last minute changes in a calm, professional manner.
- Ensure that all health and safety procedures, including fire & evacuation and manual handling, are adhered to.
- Maintain effective safe food hygiene practices as per food hygiene training.
- Working as part of the operational team.
- Undertake in-house and external training as necessary.

Person Specification:
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently within a busy environment.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with customers, other staff members/teams plus agency staff.
- Reliable, with a responsible, and positive attitude towards work.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service and an understanding of the needs of the customers by building rapport.
- Communicate directly with corporate guests in a polite manner during an event.
- Ability to comply with manual handling safety procedures.
