Base negotiable c. £70k-80k p/a plus bonuses (OTE £100k+ uncapped)

We're recruiting an experienced Events Director to take strategic and commercial ownership of a substantial portfolio of conferences, exhibitions, training programmes and industry events within the renewable energy, sustainability and circular economy sectors.
This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for 30+ annual UK and international events, ranging from major exhibitions and conferences through to awards, training programmes, networking events, roundtables and stakeholder forums.
You'll also directly lead a multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 people, spanning events, conference production, stakeholder engagement, commercial sales, membership, audience development, marketing and communications.
This isn't a role for someone who wants to manage entirely through delegation. We're looking for a commercially driven Events Director who can set the strategy, lead and develop a sizeable team, and remain close enough to the detail to personally drive major events, commercial opportunities and key stakeholder relationships.
The Role
You'll take overall responsibility for the strategy, growth, profitability and delivery of the events portfolio, including:
- Developing and delivering the long-term events and portfolio growth strategy
- Full P&L ownership, including budgets, forecasting, revenue and profitability
- Leading major UK and international conferences, exhibitions and industry events
- Managing and developing a team of approximately 10 people across multiple functions
- Driving sponsorship, exhibition, delegate and training revenues
- Personally developing relationships with major sponsors, exhibitors, partners and industry stakeholders
- Identifying and launching new events, products, markets and commercial revenue streams
- Overseeing conference programmes, content development and speaker strategy
- Leading international event expansion and strategic partnerships
- Developing audience growth, engagement and membership strategies
- Providing strategic oversight across events, sales, marketing, communications and audience development
- Managing venues, suppliers, contracts, risk and event governance
- Reporting on commercial and operational performance to senior leadership and the Board
- Travelling internationally to support events, partnerships and new market development

What We're Looking For
We're interested in established senior events professionals with backgrounds such as Events Director, Head of Events, Portfolio Director, Conference Director or Commercial Events Director.
You'll ideally bring:
- Significant experience leading a complex portfolio of conferences, exhibitions or B2B events
- A proven track record of growing event revenue and profitability
- Strong commercial capability with direct P&L responsibility
- Experience generating sponsorship, exhibition and delegate revenue
- Significant people-management experience, ideally leading multidisciplinary teams of a comparable size
- Strong conference production and programme-development experience
- Experience delivering international events and working across international markets is highly desirable
- The flexibility and willingness to travel internationally as required
- Evidence of successfully growing audiences and stakeholder engagement
- Excellent senior stakeholder, negotiation and relationship-management skills
- The ability to combine strategic leadership with hands-on delivery

Sector Experience
Previous experience within renewable energy, sustainability, environmental services, infrastructure or the circular economy would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
We're equally interested in candidates from trade associations, professional bodies, B2B conferences and exhibitions, membership organisations, commercial event organisers and industry media/events businesses.
The Opportunity
This is a substantial leadership position rather than simply responsibility for delivering an established events calendar.
You'll have the opportunity to lead a team of around 10 people, shape the overall events strategy, launch new products, grow international markets, develop major commercial partnerships and influence the future direction of the portfolio.
You'll be working at the heart of a fast-growing international sector, bringing together businesses, investors, policymakers, technology providers and other senior stakeholders through major industry events.
