We’re working with an innovative aerospace company developing the next generation of electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. They’re looking to add Flight Control Systems Engineers to their growing engineering team.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of flight control development on a highly innovative aircraft platform, working across control law design, simulation, integration and flight testing.
Location: Hybrid – approximately 1 hour from London
Salary: Flexible depending on experience and seniority
Working pattern: Several days per week on site
The Role:
You’ll be responsible for developing and refining flight control functionality across the aircraft's different flight phases, from vertical flight through transition and into forward flight. Working closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll have significant input into the development, verification and refinement of the aircraft's control architecture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and tune control algorithms for hover, transition and forward-flight conditions.
- Take ownership of stabilisation and flight control logic for a piloted electric aircraft.
- Develop and assess control strategies for the transition between vertical and conventional wing-borne flight.
- Integrate flight control functionality into the aircraft's onboard control environment.
- Build and assess models using tools such as MATLAB and Simulink.
- Design, simulate and optimise control systems before hardware and flight testing.
- Plan and execute SIL, PIL and HIL verification activities.
- Support flight-test campaigns, including test preparation, data analysis and post-flight evaluation.
- Work alongside systems engineers to maintain requirements, verification and traceability.
- Collaborate with propulsion, avionics, structures and other engineering disciplines to understand and manage system-level interactions.
- Contribute to the development of processes and evidence supporting future aircraft certification.
- Maintain engineering documentation, configuration and change records using modern engineering collaboration tools.

You:

You will have a strong background in flight controls, control systems or aerospace systems, ideally with experience taking control algorithms from modelling and simulation through to hardware and/or flight testing.
You'll ideally have experience with:
- Flight control law development
- Control system modelling and simulation
- MATLAB / Simulink
- Stabilisation and autopilot systems
- SIL / PIL / HIL testing
- Flight-test support and data analysis
- Requirements and verification processes
- Working within multidisciplinary aerospace or high-integrity engineering environments
Experience with eVTOL, UAV, electric aircraft or other advanced aerospace platforms would be particularly valuable, although engineers coming from adjacent flight-control environments will also be considered.
This role would suit someone who wants to work on a genuinely hands-on aircraft development programme and have a direct impact on how the vehicle performs in flight.
