Our client is seeking an experienced Ex Electrical Supervisor – Hazardous Area Inspection to lead offshore hazardous-area inspection and Ex equipment integrity activities on FPSO facilities. This is a specialist supervisory role for an experienced Ex professional with strong competence in IEC 60079, hazardous-area electrical equipment, offshore inspection campaigns, Ex defect management and supervision of CompEx-certified technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise offshore Ex / hazardous-area inspection campaigns.
- Supervise CompEx-certified Hazardous Area Inspection Technicians.
- Coordinate visual, close and detailed inspection of installed Ex electrical and instrumentation equipment.
- Ensure inspections are executed in accordance with IEC 60079-17 and applicable Company procedures.
- Review inspection findings and ensure anomalies are correctly identified, classified, recorded and progressed to close-out.
- Manage and maintain the Ex Register, including certification details, inspection history, defects, repairs and modifications.
- Provide technical support for Ex equipment defect assessment and remedial action.
- Support repair, replacement and modification of Ex equipment.
- Support equipment obsolescence management and selection of suitable certified replacement equipment.
- Interface with offshore operations, maintenance, engineering personnel and equipment OEMs.
- Support Ex equipment reliability improvement and lifecycle-management initiatives.
- Ensure Ex equipment changes are managed through applicable Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Support preparation of work packs, risk assessments, offshore execution plans and Permit-to-Work requirements.
- Monitor team performance, inspection quality, progress and reporting.
- Maintain high EHS and technical-compliance standards throughout offshore execution.

Mandatory Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Valid CompEx Ex01–Ex04 certification or recognised equivalent for hazardous-area electrical inspection and maintenance.
- Recognised Electrical, E&I or related technical/trade qualification.
- Demonstrable experience leading offshore hazardous-area / Ex inspection campaigns.
- Strong working knowledge of the IEC 60079 series, particularly IEC 60079-17.
- Practical experience with hazardous-area electrical equipment inspection, maintenance and defect management.
- Experience managing Ex registers, hazardous-area asset registers or engineering inspection databases.
- Experience with Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Experience supervising Ex inspectors / electrical technicians in an offshore environment.
Mandatory Offshore Certification
Candidates must hold current and valid offshore certification, including as applicable:
- BOSIET / FOET with CA-EBS
- Offshore Medical
- MIST / IMIST
- Any other current offshore safety certification required for mobilisation to an FPSO
Applicants without valid offshore certification should not apply.
Preferred Experience
Strong preference will be given to candidates with:
- Previous FPSO experience.
- Experience working on offshore oil & gas production assets.
- Performing Authority / Permit-to-Work experience or authorization.
- SafeEx or equivalent Ex inspection-management-system experience.
- Experience in risk-based hazardous-area inspection programmes.
- Shutdown, turnaround or major offshore inspection campaign experience.
- Ex equipment obsolescence and replacement-selection experience.
- Experience interfacing with Ex equipment OEMs.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and Ex repair/modification capability.
- Experience preparing work packs, task risk assessments and technical reports.

Technical Competence
Candidates should demonstrate practical knowledge of:
- IEC 60079-17 inspection and maintenance requirements.
- Hazardous-area classification.
- Ex d, Ex e, Ex i and other common protection concepts.
- Equipment certification and nameplate verification.
- Gas groups, temperature classes and IP ratings.
- Visual, close and detailed Ex inspection techniques.
- Ex defect classification and anomaly management.
- Ex equipment registers and inspection databases.
- Electrical and instrumentation equipment on offshore production facilities.
- Management of Change and equipment lifecycle management.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a technically strong supervisor who can:
- Lead an offshore Ex inspection team with minimal supervision.
- Maintain high inspection quality and consistency.
- Provide technical direction to CompEx-certified technicians.
- Identify and escalate significant Ex integrity concerns.
- Interface effectively with offshore operations and engineering teams.
- Produce clear, technically defensible reports.
- Maintain accurate inspection, certification and defect-management records.
