Location: Dublin / site based

Flannery Plant Hire is a leading provider of plant hire and specialist attachments to the construction industry across the UK and Ireland. With a comprehensive fleet of innovative machinery, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service and supporting our customers with reliable, high-performing plant and equipment. As part of our continued growth, we are now looking for an experienced Excavator Operator to join our team in Dublin.

Role Purpose

Flannery are seeking a skilled and reliable Excavator Operator to operate excavators safely and efficiently across construction sites and customer projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out excavation, loading, grading, and material-handling activities in accordance with site requirements, project specifications, and company procedures.

The role requires a safety-focused and professional approach, strong machine operating skills, and a commitment to delivering high standards of productivity, quality, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and associated attachments safely and efficiently on construction and civil engineering projects.
  • Carry out excavation, trenching, digging, grading, levelling, loading, and material-handling activities as required.
  • Operate machinery in accordance with site plans, drawings, project specifications, and instructions from site management.
  • Complete pre-start checks, daily inspections, and basic operator maintenance before and during each shift.
  • Identify and report mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, or operational faults, damage, and safety concerns promptly.
  • Use excavator attachments correctly, including buckets, breakers, grabs, and other specialist equipment where trained and authorised.
  • Work accurately around underground services, structures, personnel, vehicles, and other plant.
  • Support site teams with general construction, groundworks, and plant-operating activities as required.
  • Follow lifting plans, traffic management arrangements, exclusion zones, and site-specific operating procedures.
  • Maintain clear communication with banksmen, groundworkers, supervisors, and other site personnel.
  • Complete accurate daily records, defect reports, timesheets, and other required documentation.
  • Keep the excavator, attachments, tools, and work area clean, secure, and in a safe condition.
  • Follow company policies, risk assessments, method statements, health and safety procedures, and environmental requirements.
  • Represent Flannery Plant Hire professionally when working on customer sites and construction projects.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience operating excavators in construction, civil engineering, groundworks, utilities, or a related environment.
  • Competence operating excavators safely and productively in busy construction site conditions.
  • Knowledge of safe excavation practices, ground conditions, and working around underground services.
  • Ability to complete pre-start inspections and identify basic plant defects and safety issues.
  • Ability to follow site plans, instructions, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently when required.
  • Relevant operator certification or recognised training for excavator operation.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland and willingness to work on construction sites across the Dublin area.

Desirable

  • Experience operating tracked excavators, wheeled excavators, or specialist excavator attachments.
  • Experience working with GPS or 3D machine control systems.
  • Experience in plant hire, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or road construction.
  • CSCS, CPCS, SOLAS, or other relevant construction plant operator certification.
  • Manual handling, abrasive wheels, lifting operations, or other relevant site qualifications.
  • Full driving licence.
