Excel Database Specialist

Location: Nottingham - Hybrid (2 days in the office)
Pay/Duration: £200 per day Umbrella, 3-Month Contract

We're seeking an experienced Excel Database Specialist to support a short-term project focused on streamlining project and commercial documentation through automation and standardisation.

You'll design and develop advanced Excel-based databases, templates, and automated workflows that enable information to be maintained in a single master file and automatically populate multiple project documents, reducing manual administration and improving data accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced Excel databases and automated management tools.
  • Create master data files that populate multiple linked documents.
  • Build automated templates for: Bills of Materials (BOMs), Packing Lists, Commercial Invoices, Product & Vendor Data Registers (PDRs/VDRs), Document Registers, and Project Tracking Logs.
  • Utilise Power Query, Power Pivot, Dynamic Arrays, advanced formulas, and VBA where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Project, Engineering, Procurement, Logistics, and Commercial teams to gather requirements and deliver efficient solutions.
  • Test, validate, and document all tools, providing user training and handover at project completion.

About You

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel expertise with experience building database-style solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, Pivot Tables, Power Query, Dynamic Arrays, Data Validation, and Conditional Formatting.
  • Proven experience creating automated templates and workflows from a single data source.
  • Strong analytical and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Able to work independently and deliver solutions with minimal supervision.

Desirable

  • Experience within engineering, manufacturing, logistics, or project-based environments.
  • VBA/macros experience.
  • Knowledge of BOMs, document control processes, PDRs/VDRs, and commercial documentation.
  • Exposure to SharePoint, Power BI, or wider Microsoft 365 tools.
