We're exclusively partnered with a scaling Payments Fintech looking for a senior compliance leader to own their regulatory compliance and financial crime frameworks end to end, and to build the function that will carry them through their next phase of growth and regulatory licensing applications.
This is a hands-on role at the intersection of payments and digital assets, so we will be looking for a strong professional with experience in those fields who is capable of operationalising the controls and being the principal point of contact with the FCA.
Responsibilities:
- Hold the MLRO/nominated officer role, with personal accountability for the firm's AML, CTF, sanctions and proliferation financing frameworks
- Oversee transaction monitoring across fiat and on-chain activity, making SAR/AML decisions and implementing Travel Rule compliance
- Lead all FCA engagement, from applications and variations of permission to supervisory correspondence and section 165 requests
- Advise on new products, markets and partnerships, including the regulatory perimeter, Consumer Duty and cryptoasset financial promotions
- Select and integrate RegTech and blockchain analytics tooling with product and engineering, building scalable screening, case management and MI

Experience Required:
- Previously Head of Compliance and/or MLRO experience at a UK EMI, payment institution or cryptoasset service provider
- Deep working knowledge of the MLRs 2017, POCA, FSMA, the UK sanctions regime, JMLSG guidance and the FCA Handbook
- Hands-on proficiency with blockchain analytics tools such as Chainalysis, Elliptic or TRM Labs, ideally you can run a trace yourself and explain it to a regulator
- A track record of building compliance processes from early stage and scaling them through rapid growth
- Comfortable with direct FCA engagement experience, holding or ready to hold equivalent SMF16 and SMF17 functions
- Sound judgement under pressure and the credibility to hold the line with senior stakeholders
- Experience leading an FCA authorisation for an EMI or cryptoasset firm, or preparing for the cryptoasset authorisation gateway, would be a real advantage
