VP, Execution Algo Developer
London | Hybrid
A global trading business is looking for an experienced Execution Algo Developer to join its London engineering team and play a senior role in the redevelopment of its core electronic trading technology.
The firm operates across highly electronic global markets and is investing significantly in the systems responsible for executing orders efficiently across multiple sources of liquidity. This is a hands-on engineering position with substantial greenfield development. You’ll work closely with trading teams to design and build the technology responsible for determining how, when and where orders are executed, while improving the performance and scalability of the wider execution platform.
The role would suit an experienced Java engineer who has previously built execution technology within an investment bank, hedge fund, proprietary trading firm, market maker or similarly sophisticated trading environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and build high-performance electronic execution systems
- Develop algorithms responsible for executing orders across multiple markets and liquidity sources
- Build logic around order placement, execution strategy and venue selection
- Work directly with traders to develop and improve execution behaviour
- Integrate execution systems with market connectivity and real-time data services
- Analyse trading and market data to measure and improve execution performance
- Improve latency, throughput and scalability across critical trading applications
- Develop highly concurrent, resilient Java services operating in real time
- Investigate complex production issues affecting live trading
- Contribute to the architecture and technical direction of the wider trading platform
- Take ownership of new functionality from initial design through to production

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
