Executive Assistant to the CEO (Maternity Cover)

As our next Executive Assistant to the CEO (Maternity Cover), you'll play a key role in helping us build the UK's go-to home improvement marketplace. You'll be the person our CEO relies on to keep the day-to-day running smoothly, owning their diary, priorities and the details that let them focus on the big calls. It's a 12-month fixed-term contract, based in our London (Moorgate) office, and a genuine seat close to the decisions shaping Checkatrade's next chapter.

Forget long lists, here’s what you’ll actually spend your time on:

  • Owning the CEO's diary end-to-end: prioritising what matters, protecting focus time, and making sure every meeting has a clear purpose and the right people in the room.
  • Coordinating board and leadership meetings: pulling together papers, chasing actions, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks between sessions.
  • Managing complex travel and itineraries, sorting the logistics so the CEO can turn up ready, without the faff.
  • Acting as a trusted first point of contact for the CEO: handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion, and representing them well with senior stakeholders, investors and the exec team.
  • Keeping the wider leadership team's rhythm on track: coordinating offsites, leadership meetings and cross-team moments that keep everyone aligned.
  • Spotting where things could run better and just fixing them: you'll have real ownership over how the CEO's office operates day to day.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
