I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What are we looking for?
- Previous experience working within a law firm is essential, together with demonstrable experience of leading or managing an EA/PA or legal support team.
- You’ll need to be someone who can comfortably move between the two sides of the role: one minute dealing with the practicalities of workload allocation or supporting a member of your team, the next providing polished and proactive EA support to senior lawyers.
- You’ll be organised, commercially aware and confident communicating with people at all levels. Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who genuinely enjoys developing others and creating an environment where a support team can perform at its best.

Why consider it?
- This isn't a role where you have to choose between remaining an EA or moving completely away from hands-on support.
- It offers the opportunity to combine both, build your leadership experience and continue developing your career within an international legal environment.
