About the Trust
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is a large integrated acute and community provider and a major teaching hospital which is a trusted anchor institution at the heart of our communities. Playing an influential and critical role in two integrated care systems, we are an organisation of considerable scale, complexity and potential, and we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together.
We have over 14,000 staff working across five hospitals and many other sites and are rated Good by the CQC, however we recognise the challenges we face and are committed to delivering improvements including across cancer services and urgent and emergency care.
About the Role
Pivotal to delivering these improvements and delivering exceptional care together will be the appointment of an accomplished and visionary leader to join our Board. The Executive Chief Digital Information Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of healthcare delivery through the implementation of our ambitious Digital and Data Strategy and lead the implementation of the new NerveCentre Electronic Patient Record (EPR).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
