Reporting to (Job Title): Director, Marketing
Senior Manager, Public Relations (dotted line)
Objective of role: To support the delivery of TheCityUK’s communications activity across public relations and marketing communications, helping to maximise the impact of our policy, research and stakeholder engagement work through digital communications, content development and media relations.

Key Activities & Responsibilities
This is a fast-paced role working closely with colleagues across the corporate communications team, with particular focus on digital communications, PR and marketing.
The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, good judgement, strong organisational abilities and an interest in digital communications and media. The role holder will be enthusiastic, proactive and keen to develop their communications skills and knowledge of financial and related professional services.
The job holder will report into the Director, Marketing and have a dotted line into the Senior Manager, Public Relations.
Content creation and digital communications
- Develop written and visual content, and repurpose existing content, for TheCityUK's digital channels, including website, social media, email marketing and video content, translating our reports, speeches, policy papers and events into engaging content for our target audiences.
- Support the planning and delivery of social media activity, with particular focus on LinkedIn and YouTube.
- Monitor the performance of digital channels, using analytics and insights to assess the impact of content and inform future communications activity, and make recommendations to enhance communications activity.
- Help to maintain and update website content in collaboration with colleagues across the organisation and the marketing manager.
- Monitor social media channels, share useful insights with the team, including ideas and opportunities to enhance our own content to drive engagement and better promote organisational activity.
- Support communications planning and content scheduling to ensure activity is coordinated and delivered effectively across our various channels.
- Manage the collation of content for a regular LinkedIn newsletter and other similar communications as required.
- As required, liaise with our external designers to coordinate the development of collateral.
PR and media relations
- Support the Senior Manager, PR to deliver TheCityUK's media relations programme and day-to-day press office activity.
- Monitor the news agenda and flag to the Senior Manager, PR potential opportunities to promote TheCityUK's policy positions and outputs.
- Draft press releases, media statements, briefing materials for our spokespeople, Q&As and other content to support the implementation of PR activity.
- Respond promptly to media enquiries – escalating sensitive or high-profile enquiries as required – and assist in coordinating responses from spokespeople and subject matter experts in a timely manner.
- Assist with supporting media interviews and media-facing events as required.
- Maintain an up-to-date list of target media and an awareness of stories/angles they are interested in.
- Support the development and maintenance of journalist relationships to support delivery of the PR programme.
- Assist with the planning of and preparation of TheCityUK’s media dinner series, including supporting research and preparing briefing materials.
- Support activity through our PR agency as required.
- Monitor media performance, preparing regular reports and summaries on communications performance, audience engagement and media impact.

General
- Build good relationships with colleagues across the organisation to facilitate the smooth delivery of work.
- Ensure awareness and understanding of business activities and the policy agenda to help inform communications activity.
- Keep across marketing communications trends and insights that could be helpful to the wider team.

Key Relationships & Interfaces
- Colleagues across the organisation, in particular those leading key projects.
- Corporate Communication team colleagues, in particular the Marketing Director, Senior PR Manager and the Managing Director, Corporate Affairs.
- Journalists and producers from across the spectrum of print, online and broadcast outlets.
- External suppliers – i.e., designers, PR agency, web agency, research partners etc.
- Working-level communications contacts at member organisations, trade associations and the City of London Corporation as appropriate.
Person Specification
- Educated to degree level and/or relevant industry experience.
- Around two to four years' relevant experience in a communications role, either in-house or agency side (preferably with some experience of financial or professional services).
- Strong understanding of digital platforms, particularly LinkedIn and YouTube, and how organisations can use them effectively.
- Experience creating and managing content across multiple formats, including video.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to identify opportunities, suggest new ideas and improve digital engagement.
- Experience working with external stakeholders and/or journalists.
- Ability to identify news angles and keep across the evolving news agenda.
- Agile, able to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging communications for different audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience supporting the planning and delivery of effective social media activity.
- Familiarity with digital / AI tools that support the development of creative content.
- Enthusiastic, quick to learn, calm under pressure, and personable.
- Confident in dealing with stakeholders at all levels, diplomatic and respectful.
- Ability to use AI tools responsibly to support routine tasks and exercise judgement, when required.
