We are looking for an Executive Producer, Social, to lead a dedicated team of social producers and commission and executive produce our news, features and opinion social media content off-platform.
This role will oversee the production of short-form video while also producing, editing and repurposing video, photography, text and graphics to bring our journalism to new audiences in creative and compelling ways. No subject is off-limits. We cover everything – including global politics, the climate crisis, culture, and pure human-interest stories.
This is a permanent, full-time position working a nine-day fortnight, which will include weekend work, early and late shifts.
About the Role
- Oversee daily story selection and editing for off-platform journalism, focusing on Instagram and TikTok
- Direct and sign off concepts and design and work with producers and hosts on areas such as scripting, style and picture selection
- Ensure posts and videos meet the highest editorial and technical standards and legal compliance, making confident editorial decisions on verification, and copyright
- Work with the head of short-form and head of video to commission and project manage social-first longer term projects and investigations
- Train new staff and manage the rota with administrators
- Work with our head of production to spend budgets efficiently and remain within agreed budget
- Work closely with other teams to share resources and execute collaborative projects, including communicating closely with the reactive video team
- Work with senior team members, channel managers, colleagues in marketing and other departments to set strategic course for audience expansion
- Ensure communication is smooth and collaborative with our colleagues on other desks and social media teams in Australia and the US
- Put in place systems to improve workflow
- This role is office-based and will not include on-the-ground shooting

About You
- Extensive experience in visual and social news storytelling
- Experience working in a newsroom
- Experience working with all major social media platforms, underpinned by a nuanced understanding of each platform’s unique ecosystem, and how to make and optimise content performance for each platform
- Experience managing a team, supporting and developing junior colleagues
- Understanding of how to make text, photos, graphics and video work together visually on social media
- Understanding of the specific needs of social media audiences
- Strong writing skills with a flair for summarising long, complex information into engaging and concise copy
- Familiarity with content management systems and analytics of all major social media platforms
- Substantial experience editing video and producing and editing videos for social media from start to finish using Adobe Premiere
- Design skills with ability to produce static content with Adobe Creative Suite and Figma
- Knowledge of Adobe After Effects, and ability to shoot video is a strong advantage
- Journalistic training including knowledge of media law and OSINT
- Strong news sense
- Strong planning and organisational skills, plus experience juggling multiple deadlines
- Digitally savvy with an aptitude for picking up new technical skills and analysing data
- An understanding of the evolving ways people consume news video on and off platform
- An awareness of the needs and interests of GNM’s audiences
- Ideally, you’ll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role

We operate in a hybrid environment working at least three days a week from our offices in King’s Cross in London.

The salary range for this NUJ position starts at £60,748, with the final offer determined by the successful candidate's skills, experience, and responsibilities.
