We are now on the hunt for an experienced Location Designer to work on a new series Backyard Sports. Join us in our quest to create the best possible animated content for our partners. We are looking for someone who can start as of the 17th of August 2026 and the role will run until the 16th of October 2026.
'Backyard Sports' is a new series based on the widely popular video 90's game franchise of the same name. Playground Pictures are modernising the 'Backyard Sports' universe and the beloved characters in a new and exciting animated series. The series is an homage to the game and explores how - no matter your background or chaos that may happen in life - everyone has a place in the Backyard Sports community.
PLEASE NOTE: For this role, candidates may work either from our Kilkenny studio or remotely within the Republic of Ireland, there is no option to work freelance from outside of Ireland
About the role
As a location designer, you are responsible for exploring and creating environments that set the stage for a production, while ensuring the designs are functional for production.
What you'll be doing
- Finalise and clean up designs using Photoshop
- Execute changes on designs based on feedback from the art lead and/or assistant director/director
- Maintain the overall location style
- Demonstrate strong visual interpretation skills
- Keep team informed of potential creative problems
- Ensure that production deadlines are met while maintaining the highest standard of quality
- Draft, design and layout locations from script/animatic/briefs

What we're looking for
- 3+ years of Professional Studio experience as a Location Designer
- Strong understanding of traditional 2D principles
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Attention to detail and ability to find solutions
- Experience with Shotgrid/Flow is considered a plus
