6 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose

Provide a professional frontline pest control service across residential, commercial and public spaces by inspecting, investigating and treating pest infestations. Ensure all pest control activities are carried out safely, humanely and in accordance with legislation, industry best practice and council standards while delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, investigate and identify pest infestations, determining the most appropriate treatment or management approach.
  • Carry out pest control treatments, proofing works and preventative measures in line with legislation, COSHH regulations and BPCA Codes of Practice.
  • Conduct property surveys, including internal, external and drainage inspections, recommending repairs and structural improvements to prevent future infestations.
  • Undertake pest proofing works using approved materials and techniques in accordance with fire safety and construction regulations.
  • Collect and transport stray dogs and assist with pigeon proofing, clearance and cleansing activities where required.
  • Safely prepare, store, transport and use pesticides, biocides and other treatment materials.
  • Maintain allocated vehicles, equipment, tools and materials, ensuring they remain safe, secure and roadworthy.
  • Collect customer payments and work with scheduling teams to ensure accurate charging and income recovery.
  • Provide expert advice and technical guidance to residents, council officers, contractors and other stakeholders, preparing detailed reports and acting as an expert witness when required.
  • Support, mentor and train apprentices, trainees and work placement students.
  • Maintain accurate digital records using service IT systems and report safeguarding concerns identified during site visits.
  • Promote good environmental practices by educating customers on preventing future infestations and contributing to service improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • RSPH Level 2 Pest Control Technician qualification (minimum requirement).
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Proven experience delivering pest control services across a range of environments.
  • Strong knowledge of pest identification, treatment methods, pest proofing techniques and relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Experience using pesticides and biocides in compliance with COSHH regulations and industry best practice.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, maintain accurate records and use mobile IT systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to advise and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a varied workload and respond effectively to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the London Borough of Southwark is desirable.
