Umbrella - £22.78 per hour - Umbrella
Job Purpose
As an Experienced Pest Control Technician, you will provide frontline pest control services across Southwark Council, carrying out inspections, surveys, treatments, proofing works, and pest management activities in residential, commercial, and public environments. You will identify infestations, recommend solutions, perform treatments, and provide expert advice to residents and stakeholders.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Conduct inspections, investigations, and surveys of pest infestations.
- Identify pests and determine appropriate treatment methods.
- Carry out pest control treatments using traps, pesticides, biocides, deterrents, and other control methods.
- Undertake pest proofing and prevention works.
- Survey properties internally and externally, including drains and communal areas.
- Produce reports, quotations, recommendations, and technical advice.
- Carry out pigeon proofing and pigeon-related clearance works.
- Collect and transport stray dogs in accordance with legislation and procedures.
- Handle rodents, squirrels, cockroaches, bed bugs, fleas, moths, flies, ants, wasps, and hornets.
- Prepare risk assessments and method statements.
- Store, transport, and use pesticides in line with COSHH regulations.
- Operate and maintain council vehicles, equipment, and materials.
- Collect payments and support service income recovery where required.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, treatments, and completed works.
- Provide expert pest control advice to residents, officers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Support apprentices, trainees, and work placement students.
- Use mobile technology and IT systems to record and manage workload.
- Report safeguarding concerns identified during site visits.
- Support service improvements and ensure compliance with SLAs.

Essential Experience Required
- Significant experience working as a Pest Control Technician.
- Experience carrying out pest inspections, surveys, and treatments.
- Experience dealing with rodents, insects, birds, and nuisance pests.
- Experience using pesticides and biocides safely and effectively.
- Experience undertaking pest proofing works.
- Experience producing reports and maintaining treatment records.
- Experience working in residential, commercial, and public sector settings.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe systems of work.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites.

Essential Qualifications Required
- RSPH Level 2 Pest Control Technician Qualification (minimum requirement).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Right to Work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
- BPCA knowledge and experience.
- Local Authority experience.
- Knowledge of Southwark borough geography.
- Experience in stray dog collection and transport.
- Experience in pigeon proofing and bird control works.
Additional Information to Note
- Working hours: 36 hours per week.
- Location: Copeland Road Depot, Blackpool Road, London, SE15 3SN.
- Mobile role covering Southwark and surrounding areas.
- On-site interview.
- Interview Date: 6th October 2026.
- Interview will include pest control knowledge and experience-based questions.
- Supplier Submission Deadline: 5th October 2026.
- We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
