The team can provide a full fitting service and works directly with architects to address technical requirements and ensure successful project delivery.
Role Description
As an Experienced Workshop Joiner at Oak By Design, you will work full time in our manufacturing shop in Tockwith, producing high-quality oak structures and components such as orangeries, conservatories, beams, floors, and porches. Daily tasks include interpreting technical drawings, measuring and cutting materials, assembling frames, and completing detailed joinery and finishing work to company standards. You will be responsible for safe and efficient use of hand tools and power tools, maintaining workshop equipment, and keeping the workspace clean and organized. The role involves collaborating with colleagues, supporting the fitting team when required, and contributing to continuous improvements in quality and efficiency. You will be expected to follow all health and safety procedures and uphold Oak By Design’s commitment to craftsmanship and customer satisfaction.

- Strong carpentry and finish carpentry skills, with proven experience in high-quality joinery work.
- Proficient use of hand tools (e.g., chisels, planes, saws) for precise cutting, shaping, and fitting.
- Confident and safe operation of power tools, including saws, drills, sanders, and related workshop machinery.
- Experience with framing and structural assembly of timber components and oak structures.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and measurements accurately.
- Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a focus on quality and safety.
- Previous experience in a workshop or construction environment, ideally working with oak or hardwoods.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with good communication and time management skills.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in carpentry/joinery (or equivalent experience).
