WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
You’ll join Bain’s Technology Insights Group (TIG), a rapidly growing global team of consultants and technologists. We work with leading private equity investors and their technology-enabled portfolio companies, acting as technical advisors throughout the investment lifecycle.
Our team conducts product and technology due diligence and value creation engagements, bringing together deep software expertise with a strong understanding of the commercial environments in which technology businesses operate. You’ll work alongside Bain consultants as well as experienced technology leaders, including former CPOs and CTOs of leading global technology and software companies.
The team has completed more than 400 product and technology diligence and value creation engagements worldwide and has supported clients on some of the most visible technology investments in the US and Europe in recent years.
WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
As a Technologist – Expert Senior Manager, you’ll help scale a critical capability within Bain. You’ll work closely with global technology leadership and our regional Private Equity and General Consulting teams, bringing an experienced technical perspective to due diligence and value creation engagements.

You’ll assess some of the most interesting technology and technology-enabled businesses in the market, gaining exposure to a broad range of technologies, products and industries—including the rapidly evolving adoption of AI.
This position is based in London.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
You’ll act as a senior technologist and full member of the case leadership team across technology and integrated due diligence, post-acquisition—including Day 1 and the first 100 days—and value creation engagements.
In this role, you will:
- Own the technical answer, working closely with case leadership to shape executive-level conclusions, key assumptions and assessments. You’ll take an answer-led approach grounded in the investment thesis for private equity clients or an operator perspective for corporate clients.
- Evaluate product capabilities against the investment thesis, assess technical debt and architecture choices, identify material technology risks—including cybersecurity—and evaluate an R&D organization’s ability to execute.
- Translate complex technical findings into a clear view of what needs to happen, the implications for the business and the likely investment required.
- Serve as a senior technical voice in client discussions, management deep dives and conversations with target companies.
- Lead deep dives into critical technical topics, drawing on Bain’s broader technologist community and expert network where specialist expertise is needed.
- Help win new work by shaping proposals and engagement approaches and bringing strong technical credibility to client pitches.
- Apply the investment thesis to technology due diligence and translate technical assessments into relevant business insights and recommendations.
- Help develop TIG intellectual property and identify new opportunities for technology due diligence and value creation work.
- Share your expertise with senior and junior colleagues, helping strengthen technology knowledge across Bain and with our clients.
- Coach and mentor junior members of the TIG team.

ABOUT YOU
You bring substantial hands-on experience in commercial software engineering and architecture, combined with the ability to translate highly technical topics into clear business implications.
You’ll also bring:
- 10+ years of relevant industry experience, including at least three years in leadership roles.
- Recent, direct experience with AI-enabled software development lifecycles and the use of AI and generative AI in products, platforms or business processes.
- Strong knowledge of software architecture, technology stacks, cloud and mobile computing, technical debt, functional and non-functional roadmaps, hosting, cybersecurity, databases, data and analytics, and AI/ML technologies.
- Experience assessing R&D organizations and software development practices, including testing, quality assurance and continuous integration/continuous delivery processes.
- A solid understanding of major software business applications, which may include e-commerce, ERP, CRM, data warehousing and business intelligence, as well as familiarity with emerging applications.
- A track record of leading and collaborating on strategic initiatives.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with technical audiences and explain complex concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- The ability to collaborate effectively across levels, offices and regions.
- The ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel as required.
Consulting experience and/or hands-on experience with technical due diligence is an advantage.
