Paladin Experts is the Expert Witness division of the Group, providing independent financial Expert Witness reports and services to solicitors and barristers across the UK. Our team has experience of thousands of Expert Witness instructions and provides specialist reports covering areas including pension loss, loss of earnings, loss of dependency, lost years and Periodical Payment Orders. As the business continues to grow, we are investing in our team, systems and processes to build an Expert Witness service that continues to be recognised for its technical quality, accuracy and reliability.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced and highly capable professional to join our growing Expert Witness team as an Expert Witness Report Writer.
This is an unusual and interesting role combining financial analysis, technical research and high-quality written report preparation. You will work closely with our Expert Witnesses to help prepare clear, accurate and well-supported reports for use in legal proceedings.
Previous experience of Expert Witness work would be an advantage, but it is not essential. We are more interested in finding someone with the right technical ability, attention to detail, written communication skills and willingness to learn.
We believe the role would particularly suit someone from an accountancy, forensic accounting or technical paraplanning background. Someone with experience across more than one of these areas would be particularly well suited.
For the right person, there is also a genuine opportunity for the role to develop beyond report writing. As our Expert Witness division continues to grow, we envisage this individual potentially progressing into an Expert Witness Team Leader position, helping to coordinate the wider team, report-writing processes, allocation of work, technical knowledge and development of templates and working practices.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting Expert Witnesses with the preparation of high-quality Expert Witness reports.
- Drafting, editing, formatting and proofreading complex financial loss reports and supporting documents.
- Reviewing financial, pension, employment and other relevant documentation.
- Researching pension schemes, taxation, pension legislation and other technical matters relevant to individual cases.
- Preparing and maintaining financial calculations, including loss calculations and earnings schedules.
- Using payslips, P60s, pension information and other financial records to construct accurate earnings and loss calculations.
- Reviewing legal documents and extracting the relevant financial and factual information required for reports.
- Working closely with Expert Witnesses to manage cases and ensure court and solicitor deadlines are achieved.
- Maintaining spreadsheets, calculation models and report templates to reflect changes in taxation, legislation and working practices.
- Communicating professionally and effectively with Expert Witnesses, solicitors and colleagues.
- Maintaining accurate case records and electronic files.
- Managing your own workload effectively within a busy remote-working environment.
- Contributing to the ongoing improvement of our Expert Witness processes, templates and knowledge resources.

What We’re Looking For
You will need to be someone who enjoys getting into the detail. Expert Witness reports require accuracy, consistency and the ability to take sometimes substantial amounts of financial and legal information and turn them into something structured, understandable and robust.

Experience That Would Be Particularly Valuable
We would be especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Accountancy or forensic accounting.
- Technical paraplanning.
- Pensions and pension calculations.
- Financial modelling or loss calculations.
- Reviewing payslips, P60s, accounts and other financial records.
- Preparing detailed technical or professional reports.
- Personal injury, clinical negligence or other litigation-related financial work.
- Expert Witness report preparation.

Previous experience of writing Expert Witness reports is desirable but not essential. The technical requirements of Expert Witness work can be taught to someone with the right underlying skills and approach.
Future Progression
This role has the potential to develop significantly as our Expert Witness division grows.
For someone who demonstrates the right technical ability, organisational skills and leadership qualities, we envisage a potential progression route into an Expert Witness Team Leader role.
This could include responsibility for:
- Coordinating the work of the Expert Witness report-writing team.
- Allocating and monitoring case workloads.
- Helping manage report deadlines and workflow.
- Maintaining and improving report templates and calculation models.
- Developing consistent processes and quality-control standards.
- Building and maintaining the team's technical knowledge resources.
- Supporting and training new report writers.
- Working with the Expert Witnesses to continually improve the efficiency and quality of the service.
This means the position could be particularly attractive to someone who wants more than simply their next job and would like the opportunity to develop into a key role within a growing specialist team.

Or you may have the underlying technical and analytical skills but have never previously considered Expert Witness work.
What matters most is that you can analyse information carefully, write exceptionally well, work accurately and independently, and have the curiosity and willingness to develop expertise in a highly specialised area.
