At Metro, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Exports Supervisor to lead and support our Export Operations team in Birmingham.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced export professional who enjoys balancing hands on operational responsibility with team leadership. You will play a key role in driving service excellence, supporting key customer relationships, ensuring operational performance, and helping develop a high performing team.
Working closely with management, you will responsible for overseeing day-to-day export activities, supporting customer delivery, maintaining operational efficiency, and ensuring departmental KPIs are achieved.
What You'll Be Doing
As Exports Supervisor, you will manage your own portfolio of customers whilst leading and supporting the wider export team. Ensuring shipments are processed efficiently, customer expectations are exceeded, and internal processes are consistently followed.
Act as a key escalation point for customer and operational issues, working collaboratively with internal departments including Transport, Customs Brokerage, Finance and Account Management. You will also support continuous improvement initiatives, help onboard new customers, and contribute to the ongoing development of team members through coaching, training and performance management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support and develop a team of export operations professionals
- Monitor workloads, resource allocation and team productivity
- Drive a culture of exceptional customer service and proactive communication
- Ensure customer bookings are processed accurately and within agreed timescales
- Act as the first escalation point for customer, supplier and operational issues
- Coordinate export shipments, haulage and customs activities with internal teams and external partners
- Support the implementation of new customer accounts and operating procedures
- Ensure all customer complaints and service issues are managed and recorded appropriately
- Monitor operational reports and maintain high levels of data accuracy
- Ensure invoicing, job costing and financial administration are completed accurately and within KPI targets
- Investigate and resolve transactional and operational discrepancies
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Support employee reviews, objective setting and team development initiatives

What You’ll Bring
We are looking for an experienced export professional who enjoys leading people, building strong customer relationships and driving operational excellence.
You will have a strong understanding of export freight forwarding operations and be passionate about delivering high levels of customer service whilst supporting and developing those around you.
To be successful, you'll have:
- Experience working within export freight forwarding, logistics or international supply chain operations.
- Previous experience leading, supervising, mentoring or supporting operational teams.
- Strong knowledge of export processes and customer service best practices.
- Confidence communicating with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to prioritise workloads, manage competing deadlines and perform under pressure.
- Experience working with operational systems, reporting tools and Microsoft Office applications.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of operational KPI performance.
- A positive, collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing people and driving team success.
