Part of Xodus Group, Evolv Energies is at the forefront of major international projects where we bring a unique, integrated perspective and specialist engineering expertise to support offshore developers, investors and the wider construction and installation supply chain through Concept, Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed Design and also across Construction and Installation activities.

Role
Our Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer – Power Systems will support the delivery (including tendering) of power systems, grid connection, transmission & distribution, renewable energy and industrial electrification projects across the UK, United States, Canada and international energy markets.

A Chartered Engineer (CEng), Professional Engineer (US PE), Professional Engineer (Canada P.Eng) or actively working towards professional registration.

You will provide technical leadership and undertake a broad range of electrical engineering and power system studies to support clients through all stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through to FEED, detailed design, commissioning and operational support.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities

Power System Studies & Analysis

  • Undertake complex power system studies using DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS®E, and ETAP
    Experience of the following would be beneficial: TARA, ASPEN OneLiner, DSA Tools, SKM, ELEK or CDEGS or equivalent industry-standard software.
  • Perform steady-state and dynamic power system analysis for transmission, distribution, renewable energy and industrial power systems including Power Flow, Short-Circuit, Reactive Power Assessment/Requirements and Voltage Control, Protection and Earthing Studies.
  • Undertake dynamic stability studies, including transient, voltage and frequency stability assessments.
  • Carry out electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies for renewable generation, HVDC systems, inverter-based resources, FACTS devices and complex network interactions.
  • Deliver generator interconnection and grid connection studies in support of utility and transmission system requirements.
  • Perform power system reliability and resilience assessments, including contingency analysis and system performance evaluations.
  • Understanding of Grid Codes and ability to produce studies and reports to demonstrate compliance.
  • Experienced with Industry standards including, IEC, IEEE, BS, Cigre, NERC, NEC, NESC and CSA.
  • Develop practical engineering recommendations to support grid compliance, network performance, system stability and asset investment decisions.

Grid Connection & Network Planning

  • Support grid connection, interconnection and network access studies across UK, US and Canadian markets.
  • Undertake connection optioneering, network capacity studies and transmission constraint assessments.
  • Support the preparation of grid connection applications and technical submissions.
  • Interface with utilities, ISOs, TSOs, DNOs, transmission owners and regulatory authorities.

Electrical Engineering Design & Technical Assurance

  • Develop and review electrical engineering deliverables.
  • Support multidisciplinary feasibility, concept, pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design projects.
  • Undertake independent technical reviews and quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with client standards, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.

Project Delivery

  • Deliver work in accordance with project budgets, schedules and quality objectives.
  • Interface directly with clients, OEMs, contractors and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering activities are completed safely and in accordance with company and client procedures.

Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Support the preparation of technical proposals, tenders and client presentations.
  • Participate in business development and client engagement activities.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and service expansion.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering tools, methodologies and best practices.
  • Support the growth of the Electrical & Power Systems capability across key strategic markets.

Leadership & Mentoring (Principal Engineer)

  • Provide technical leadership across projects, bids and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in one or more specialist power systems disciplines.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers.
  • Support capability development, recruitment and technical training initiatives.
  • Represent the company within industry working groups, conferences and professional organisations.

Role Requirements

  • A hands-on engineer with a can-do attitude and willingness to work with teams at all levels.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), Professional Engineer (US PE), Professional Engineer (Canada P.Eng) or actively working towards professional registration.
  • Senior Engineer: Typically, 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Principal Engineer: Typically, 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience delivering power systems engineering studies within a consultancy, utility, renewable energy developer, OEM, industrial or power infrastructure environment.
  • Strong understanding of transmission and distribution systems, generation assets and inverter-based resources.
  • Strong technical report writing, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and engineering calculation tools.
  • Experience with Python or other automation tools for power systems analysis.
  • Experience supporting owner's engineer, lender's technical advisor or independent engineering services.
