In civil nuclear & decommissioning, we provide critical commercial strategies, regulatory compliance, and risk-driven solutions across:

  • Full lifecycle waste management
  • Site remediation
  • Critical infrastructure upgrades

We currently operate on high-hazard programme delivery projects in West Cumbria, helping the UK achieve net-zero energy.


Overview of the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our teams in Whitehaven and Warrington, leading commercial strategies and delivering cost-effective nuclear decommissioning programmes.

As a commercial leader in nuclear decommissioning, you will: 🔹 Support high-value programmes in one of the UK’s most complex sectors. 🔹 Drive commercial excellence across regulations, costs, and contracts. 🔹 Mentor junior colleagues and optimise value-for-money delivery.

This role is critical for ensuring long-term sustainability and efficiency in nuclear waste management and infrastructure upgrading.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead NEC3/NEC4 contract administration within project/programme compliance frameworks.
  • Guide cost control, cashflow forecasting, and financial reporting across full programme lifecycles.
  • Own valuation of construction/decommissioning works and ensure accuracy in pricing.
  • Act as a strategic commercial advisor, influencing client decision-making.
  • Advise on value engineering and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor junior commercial staff and contribute to team professional development.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and programme managers to deliver KPIs.
  • Ensure full compliance with nuclear industry rules and safety-led commercial practices.

Candidate Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in construction, engineering, quantity surveying, or related discipline (or equivalent qualification).
  • Significant experience in quantity surveying or commercial management for large-scale energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Accreditation in NEC ECC, with hands-on project-level knowledge of NEC3/NEC4.
  • Chartered (MRICS) or close to qualification (substantial progress).
  • Proven experience in cost management, risk mitigation, and NEC contract administration within highly regulated environments (e.g., nuclear, energy).
  • Strong ability to manage contract cashflows, governance, and commercial risk at scale.
  • Familiarity with cost forecasting, contractual change control, and litigation prevention.
  • Experience using CEMAR for project documentation.
  • Confident in stakeholder management (clients, contractors, senior leaders).
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Word).

Desirable

  • Direct experience in civil nuclear or decommissioning (e.g., NDA, West Cumbria projects).
  • Training in Thinkproject Contracts.
  • NEC Project Manager Accreditation.
  • Experience in portfolio/project-to-programme financial oversight.
  • Mentorship or team leadership skills.
