Role Description

The External Account Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Durham, focused on managing and developing relationships with existing and new trade customers. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The role involves:

  • Preparing quotations
  • Negotiating prices and terms within company guidelines
  • Ensuring orders are processed accurately and delivered on time

The External Account Manager will:

  • Collaborate closely with internal branch teams to coordinate stock, logistics, and customer support
  • Monitor account performance and address service or delivery issues promptly
  • Engage in proactive business development in the local area
  • Participate in supplier promotions
  • Provide regular reporting on market activity and customer feedback

Qualifications

  • Strong account management and relationship-building skills, with the ability to maintain and grow a portfolio of trade customers.
  • Sales and negotiation abilities, including experience preparing quotations, closing deals, and meeting revenue or margin targets.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical products or construction-related supplies, or a willingness to learn quickly through training.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to provide clear product advice and handle customer queries professionally.
  • Organizational and time-management skills to plan customer visits, manage pipelines, and follow up on opportunities consistently.
  • Comfort working on-site and on the road, with a valid driving license and readiness to visit customer locations regularly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with branch teams, using internal systems to manage orders, stock, and customer information.
  • Previous experience in wholesale, electrical distribution, construction supply, or a similar B2B environment is advantageous.
  • Basic IT proficiency (e.g., email, spreadsheets, CRM or sales systems) and numeracy skills for pricing and margin calculations.
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and customer focus, aligned with Edmundson
