Are you an experienced engineering, industrial or technical sales professional who can walk into a manufacturing environment and immediately spot opportunities to improve packaging, component protection and operational efficiency?
Our client is a global leader in high-quality protective packaging solutions, developing and manufacturing premium plastic packaging designed to protect high-value engineering components throughout manufacture, storage, transport and assembly. They are looking for an External Sales Executive to join their expanding Packaging Division in Rotherham, working with engineering and manufacturing businesses across the UK.
Benefits
- Salary: £38,000 – £40,000 basic salary, dependent on experience + Commission scheme for annual account growth and new business
- Profit share participation scheme
- Location: Rotherham, South Yorkshire
- Travel: National – minimum 3 days per week visiting customers
- Contract: Full-time, permanent
- Company car – Audi A3 petrol during the first 6 months, moving to a full electric company car (VW ID.3 or similar) following successful completion of probation
- Contributory pension – 5% employer/ 5% employee
- 25 days holiday + public holidays
- Additional birthday holiday
- Holiday purchase scheme after one year
- Free refreshments, fresh fruit and parking
- Office hours Monday-Thursday 8:30am-5:00pm and Friday 8:30am-2:00pm

The ideal candidate will live within reasonable commuting distance of Rotherham although this is not essential given the level of national travel involved.
You should be comfortable selling technical products or solutions into manufacturing environments and have a genuine understanding of how engineering businesses operate.
The Role
You’ll inherit an existing portfolio of engineering and manufacturing customers, while also being responsible for developing new business and identifying opportunities to grow existing accounts.
The focus is on providing protective packaging solutions that help manufacturers improve:
- Component protection
- Handling and storage
- Transportation
- Packaging efficiency
- Factory organisation
- Logistics and operational processes
A key part of the role will be visiting customer sites, understanding their processes and identifying where packaging solutions can solve a problem or improve efficiency.
You’ll be responsible for building relationships with engineering, purchasing and manufacturing contacts, developing new business, expanding existing accounts and managing opportunities from initial enquiry through to quotation, trials and implementation.
Criteria
- Minimum 3 years’ external B2B sales experience essential within engineering, industrial, technical sales or industrial packaging
- A proven track record in account management and business development within engineering, industrial, technical sales or industrial packaging
- Experience selling technical products or solutions within engineering, industrial, technical sales or industrial packaging
- The ability to identify commercial opportunities within manufacturing environments
- Strong communication, presentation and relationship-building skills
- Excellent commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
- A highly organised and self-motivated approach
- The confidence to cold call and actively develop new business
- A full UK driving license

This is a genuinely field-based external sales role, with national travel and multiple customer visits each day. You’ll need to be comfortable spending a significant amount of your time on the road and be organised enough to maximise your time when working within different geographical areas.
