Role Overview – Extrusions Press Operator / Press Driver
Are you an experienced manufacturing operator who takes pride in doing things right first time? Do you enjoy working with machinery, following detailed process instructions and producing high-quality work where accuracy really matters? We are looking for an Extrusions Press Operator / Press Driver to join our Manchester production team, with a specific focus on our weld rod extrusion area.
This is a hands-on production role in a specialist manufacturing environment, operating extrusion press equipment and supporting the delivery of consistent, high-quality weld rod products. You will play an important part in maintaining process control, checking work carefully, recording production information accurately and escalating anything that does not look right.
Quality is central to this role. We need someone who can follow instructions exactly, work to agreed procedures without shortcuts and complete production records clearly, accurately and on time. Experience in extrusion, press operation or similar heavy manufacturing would be a strong advantage, and previous experience in an AS9100, aerospace, defence or similarly high-quality regulated environment would be particularly valuable.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate extrusion press equipment and associated plant safely, consistently and in line with approved procedures.
- Support weld rod extrusion production, ensuring each process step is completed exactly as instructed.
- Monitor process conditions, carry out checks and raise concerns quickly if anything falls outside expectations.
- Complete production records, log sheets and handover information accurately, legibly and in full.
- Check product and process quality throughout the shift, helping to protect customer confidence and right-first-time performance.
- Work closely with Team Leaders, operators, Quality and support teams to maintain safe, controlled and reliable production.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safe working and ownership of your area.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
