Willowdown Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated EYFS/Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to bring our innovative curriculum to life, as you maintain good order and discipline, engage pupils of all abilities to reach their full potential under the guidance of the SENCo.

Hours
This is a fixed term apprenticeship contract, until April 2028. Start date: 16/11/2026 (or sooner). Working pattern: Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm, which includes 1 day at college. 32 hours 30 minutes a week
Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (EYFS)
- Support and work with volunteers, students on placements, work experience, apprentices and agency practitioners in the room
- Supervise the children and protect them from dangerous or harmful situations
- Provide a high level of care that enhances the children’s general health and well-being
- Adhere to the School’s safeguarding policy and procedures
- Promote equality of opportunity and foster an inclusive culture
- Act as a key person to a group of children and ensure their needs are reflected in the routines and curriculum of the setting
- Recognise and act upon children’s additional or special educational needs
- Liaise and work in partnership with other agencies
- Keep informative, accurate and up-to-date records
- Arrange and attend parent/carer meetings
- Support the preparation of snacks, ensuring that ALL children’s dietary, allergy and cultural needs are met
- Contribute to supervisions and attend weekly team meetings
- Attend any training events or meetings identified by the Nursery Manager
- Adhere to Willowdown’s policy and procedure on confidentiality and the staff code of conduct
- Perform any other duties as deemed necessary by the Nursery Manager or Head teacher

What you'll learn
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy
- Adapt resources to support all learners
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures
- Apply methods of formative assessment
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning)
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners
- Provide feedback to learners

- GCSE in: English (grade 4)
- GCSE in: Maths (grade 4)
