Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric, Data Warehousing)
Interim (6 months), with view to move into a permanent role
Location: East Anglia, ideally 1 day a week on site (flexible considered for the right person, with on-site visits once a month)
Inside IR35
Rate: £300-£400 per day, salary up to £47,000
Panoramic Associates are supporting a Public Sector organisation as they build out their organisation-wide data warehousing approach and migrate to the Microsoft data platform, with Microsoft Fabric at the centre of the roadmap.
This is an urgent hire due to an immediate gap in the team, and they're looking for someone who can operate as a sole Data Engineer initially and deliver confidently without day-to-day supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and develop scalable data warehousing patterns on Microsoft Fabric
- Support an organisation-wide remit (not limited to one service line)
- Immediate focus on a Customer Experience programme: integrating CX data for reliable reporting and insight
- Work with developers and stakeholders to ensure upstream platforms capture the right data for downstream reporting
- Create repeatable examples/approaches that can scale across wider platform adoption

We're looking for someone with strong fundamentals who can clearly explain their approach and make good decisions, not just complete tickets.
You'll need:
- Strong data warehousing fundamentals (ingestion from operational systems, modelling for reporting/analytics)
- Proven experience designing and implementing Slowly Changing Dimensions, specifically SCD Type 2
- Understanding of medallion-style warehouse layering (bronze/silver/gold concepts) and how to apply it in practice
- Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience (or very close equivalent Microsoft data platform experience with the ability to "figure it out" in Fabric)
- Solid SQL and Python skills to a level where you can build and troubleshoot pipelines and transformations independently
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work through ambiguity and new/unknown problems

Interview process
- Single-stage interview
- Practical discussion format (you'll be shown example data and asked to walk through how you would approach key tasks and deliver them in Fabric)
- No formal coding test
