The Role
The successful candidate will have a strong hands-on background in TIG and MIG welding, manual machining and fabrication, with the ability to manufacture components, assemblies, fixtures and tooling to high standards.
Experience within the Aerospace, Defence or Precision Engineering sectors is highly desirable. Ideally, the successful candidate will hold or have experience working to coded welding standards and aerospace-quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality TIG and MIG welding on a range of materials, including Aluminium and stainless steel.
- Manufacture welded assemblies, brackets, structures, fixtures and tooling to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Ideally hold relevant coded welding qualifications or have experience welding to Aerospace / Defence standards.
- Carry out manual machining operations using conventional milling machines and centre lathes.
- Manufacture one-off and low-volume components, tooling and fixtures.
- Interpret and work accurately from engineering drawings, GD&T; and manufacturing specifications.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters and machining methods.
- Carry out fitting, fabrication, drilling, tapping, deburring and finishing operations.
- Undertake prototype, development and R&D; fabrication work.
- Support CNC and wider manufacturing teams with tooling, fixtures and production requirements.
- Inspect completed work using appropriate measuring equipment to ensure conformity.
- Identify manufacturing issues and work with Engineering and Quality teams to resolve them.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Follow company procedures relating to quality, traceability, health & safety and configuration control.
- Support continuous improvement activities within the manufacturing environment.

Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a Fabrication Technician, Welder, Fabricator or similar precision engineering role.
- Proficient in TIG welding & MIG welding.
- Experience welding Aluminium and stainless steel.
- Experience with manual milling machines.
- Experience with manual / centre lathes.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Understanding of dimensional tolerances and basic GD&T.
- Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances and specifications.
- Good understanding of workshop practices, tooling and material selection.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Desirable Experience
- Aerospace or defence manufacturing experience.
- Coded TIG/MIG welding qualifications.
- Experience working to aerospace welding standards and specifications.
- Experience with BS EN ISO 9606 or equivalent coded welding requirements.
- Experience working within an AS9100 quality environment.
- Experience with aluminium aerospace alloys.
- Experience manufacturing lightweight structures or assemblies.
- Experience producing jigs, fixtures and tooling.
- Experience with prototype and R&D; manufacturing.
- Familiarity with inspection equipment and dimensional control.
- Basic CNC machining knowledge.
- Experience working with composite structures or additive-manufactured components.
Qualifications
- Relevant apprenticeship or engineering/fabrication qualification preferred.
- Welding qualifications/coding highly desirable.
- Relevant manual machining qualification or demonstrable practical experience.
- Additional aerospace manufacturing qualifications would be advantageous.
