Welder / Fabricator – Structural Steel
Location: Builth Wells
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
The Company
The steel leaving this workshop doesn't stay in the yard for long.
It becomes the frames, beams and connections that go on to become real buildings, and the quality of the work on the shop floor determines how smoothly those structures come together on site.
This is a structural steel operation where fit-up matters, weld quality matters, and getting it right first time matters.
They're looking for a Welder/Fabricator who knows their way around structural steel and takes pride in producing work that site teams can erect without having to fight it.
The Role
You will:
- Fabricate structural steelwork from drawings, ensuring members are ready to bolt and erect without unnecessary rework.
- Weld fillet, butt and positional joints to the required procedures and quality standards.
- Read fabrication drawings, weld symbols and cutting lists, identifying problems before steel reaches the cutting stage.
- Set out and assemble beams, frames and connections accurately, keeping everything square and within tolerance.
- Operate workshop equipment including overhead cranes, lifting equipment, grinders and thermal cutting equipment safely.
- Deliver the required weekly output while maintaining material traceability, weld records and finish quality.

What You'll Bring
You must have:
- Proven experience welding and fabricating structural steel, not primarily sheet metal or maintenance work.
- Experience reading structural fabrication drawings and weld symbols.
- The ability to produce accurate fit-ups and quality welds with minimal rework.
- Experience using workshop equipment safely, including cranes, slings, grinders and cutting equipment.
It would be useful if you have:
- Current coded welding qualifications relevant to structural steel procedures.
- Experience working to formal weld procedures and supporting NDT/inspection requirements.
- Experience working to live fabrication programmes and project deadlines.
