We are excited to offer an outstanding opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director to join our growing Façade Engineering Team.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a visionary and commercially minded façade professional who is keen to lead and grow a specialist façade consultancy team, shape the strategic direction of our services and deliver innovative, technically excellent solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects.
As Associate Director, you will play a key role in technical leadership, client development, project delivery, team growth and business development. You will work closely with clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality, buildable and commercially successful façade solutions.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the continued growth and development of our façade consultancy capability, while mentoring and developing the next generation of façade professionals.
Responsibilities
Here’s what you’ll do:
Business Development & Commercial Leadership
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, architects, contractors, developers and other industry stakeholders.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and contribute to the development of a strong project pipeline.
- Develop project fee proposals, negotiate appointments and support the commercial management of projects.
- Demonstrate strong commercial awareness, including an understanding of project profitability, resource utilisation, fee forecasting and risk.
- Lead and contribute to successful bids, tenders and pitch presentations.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences and client meetings, promoting our façade engineering expertise and capabilities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the façade team's business plan and wider company strategic initiatives.
- Participate in senior leadership meetings and contribute to business planning and strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with other AECOM teams to develop multidisciplinary opportunities and company-wide initiatives.
- Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across the wider business.
- Act as a senior ambassador for the façade engineering capability both internally and externally.

Technical & Project Leadership
- Lead the delivery of a significant portfolio of national and international façade projects across a range of sectors and project scales.
- Provide senior technical leadership, ensuring solutions achieve the appropriate balance of technical performance, quality, buildability, programme, sustainability and cost.
- Provide strategic advice to clients, architects, contractors and project teams on façade design, performance and delivery.
- Oversee façade design development, technical reviews, specifications, performance analysis, testing and construction-stage support.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with relevant standards, regulations, contractual requirements and industry best practice.
- Promote innovation and the adoption of emerging façade technologies, materials and design approaches.
- Work collaboratively with structural, architectural, sustainability, building services and other multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated design solutions.
People & Team Leadership
- Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing specialist façade engineering team.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical and professional guidance to support their career development.
- Oversee professional development, performance reviews, chartership and other key people-management activities.
- Support recruitment, succession planning and the development of the team's technical capability.
- Lead façade team resourcing to ensure appropriate technical expertise and capacity across the project portfolio.
- Create an environment that encourages collaboration, knowledge sharing, innovation and continuous professional development.
Innovation, Sustainability & R&D
- Support and lead R&D initiatives that advance sustainable, energy-efficient and resilient façade design solutions.
- Encourage the adoption of innovative materials, systems, digital tools and façade technologies.
- Contribute to the development of technical guidance, standards and best practice within the façade discipline.
- Promote whole-life performance and sustainability considerations within façade design and consultancy services.
Qualifications
Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?
- Degree qualified in engineering, architecture, building design or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional qualification with a relevant professional institution.
- Extensive experience within the façade industry, including significant experience in specialist façade consultancy.
- Proven experience leading façade projects from concept through to construction and completion.
- Strong understanding of façade system design, performance requirements, materials, interfaces, testing and compliance.
- Good knowledge of relevant façade, structural and building regulations, standards and industry guidance.
- Demonstrable experience in business development, fee proposals, bidding and winning new work.
- Strong commercial awareness and experience of managing project and/or team financial performance.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, architects, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrable experience of leading, mentoring and developing engineers and technical professionals.
- Experience with relevant façade and structural analysis/design software, such as Strand7, SJ MEPLA, THERM or Flixo, together with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and a willingness to develop knowledge of emerging digital tools and façade technologies.
- A proactive approach to innovation, sustainability and continuous professional development.
