Todmorden Town Council Facilities and Events Officer

Todmorden Town Council is seeking an enthusiastic and organised Facilities and Events Officer to support the delivery of Council events and the effective operational management of Council facilities.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in events coordination, facilities management, venue operations, or community engagement to play a key role in supporting activities that bring people together and ensuring Council facilities are safe, welcoming, and accessible.

Working closely with Council Officers and, where required, elected Members, the postholder will coordinate events, manage facility use, support venue bookings, and act as a key contact for community groups, hirers, contractors, performers, and members of the public.

Salary and Hours

  • Salary: NJC SCP 16 – £30,523 per annum (Full-Time Equivalent)
  • Actual salary: £24,747.07 per annum (30 hours per week, pro rata)
  • Hours: 30 hours per week (including evening and weekend work as required)
  • Contract: 2-year fixed-term contract (with possibility of extension)
  • Location: Varied locations across Todmorden
  • Reports to: Town Clerk

Key Responsibilities

The postholder will:

  • Coordinate the operational delivery of Council events, including outdoor events, bandstand programming, seasonal events, and community activities.
  • Provide on-site support at events, including evening and weekend working as required.
  • Liaise with performers, contractors, hirers, community groups, and suppliers to ensure successful event delivery.
  • Support event planning, risk assessments, safety documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operational use of Council buildings and facilities.
  • Manage bookings, hire arrangements, access requirements, and facility records.
  • Act as the main point of contact for venue users and community organisations.
  • Liaise with contractors regarding maintenance and facilities issues.
  • Carry out site checks and report hazards, incidents, or concerns.
  • Promote the use of Council facilities and support community engagement.

About You

We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised, and customer-focused, with the ability to manage a varied workload across multiple locations.

You will have:

  • Experience in events coordination, facilities management, venue operations, or a similar role.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of health and safety requirements relating to events or facilities.
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • A full, valid driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • The ability and willingness to travel between Council sites as required.

Desirable Experience

It would be advantageous to have:

  • Local government or public sector experience.
  • Experience managing venue hire or booking systems.
  • Knowledge of event risk assessments and safety planning.
  • First Aid or health and safety qualifications.
  • A willingness to undertake Personal Licence training.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards for commercial premises.

What We Offer

  • Salary of £24,747.07 per annum for 30 hours per week.
  • 31 days’ annual leave including bank holidays (pro rata).
  • Six-month probation period with an interim review at three months.
