Facilities Maintenance Technician

Role Purpose

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to support the maintenance, repair and continuous improvement of our facilities and infrastructure.
This hands-on role is responsible for ensuring that buildings, plant, equipment and site services are maintained to a high standard, minimizing downtime and supporting business operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe, compliant and professional working environment while contributing to ongoing improvement projects across the site.

Key Responsibilities
Planned & Reactive Maintenance
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities across the site.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and facility-related breakdowns.
- Diagnose faults and undertake repairs to building fabric, fixtures, fittings and site infrastructure.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Escalate specialist repairs to approved contractors where required.
Building & Facilities Management
- Maintain offices, workshops, warehouses, production areas and communal facilities.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings, plant rooms and external areas.
- Monitor the condition of facilities and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support office moves, workspace modifications and facility upgrades.
- Assist with site security systems, access controls and related infrastructure.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies and relevant legislation.
- Support statutory inspections and compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records.
- Assist with risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the site.

Contractor Management
- Liaise with external contractors and service providers.
- Support contractor inductions and ensure compliance with site procedures.
- Monitor contractor performance and quality of work.
- Coordinate access and oversee activities where required.
Utilities & Site Services
- Assist in maintaining building services including:
- Lighting systems
- HVAC systems
- Compressed air systems
- Electrical and mechanical services
- Water systems
- Fire alarm and safety systems
- Monitor utility performance and identify energy-saving opportunities.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve site reliability, efficiency and appearance.
- Support facilities improvement projects and refurbishment activities.
- Contribute ideas that enhance sustainability, cost control and operational effectiveness.
- Support emergency response and business continuity activities where required.
Key Measures of Success
Success in the role will be measured through:
- Completion of preventative maintenance activities to schedule.
- Response times and resolution of maintenance requests.
- Reduction in facility-related downtime and disruptions.
- Compliance with health, safety and statutory requirements.
- Quality and accuracy of maintenance records.
- Positive feedback from internal stakeholders.
- Effective management of contractors and suppliers.
- Contribution to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Safe operation and upkeep of site facilities and infrastructure.

The Facilities Maintenance Technician will work closely with:
- Facilities Manager
- Engineering Team
- Production and Operations Teams
- Health & Safety Team
- External Contractors and Suppliers
- Department Managers
- Employees across all areas of the business
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Experience in a facilities maintenance, building maintenance or engineering environment.
- Practical knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical maintenance.
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Competent in maintaining maintenance records and documentation.
- Full UK driving licence
- Flexible with UK travel

Desirable
- Recognised maintenance, engineering or trade qualification.
- Electrical qualification (18th Edition desirable).
- Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of HVAC, compressed air, fire systems and building management systems.
- IOSH Working Safely or similar health and safety qualification.
- Experience managing external contractors.
- Familiarity with CAFM or maintenance management systems
