Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Facilities & Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of site management and ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
This is a part-time role responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant working environment across both workshop and office areas. The role combines operational oversight with the development and implementation of health & safety systems, policies, and continuous improvement initiatives appropriate for a growing SME.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Management
- Lead and manage all aspects of health & safety compliance across the business.
- Develop, implement, and maintain H&S policies and procedures in line with UK legislation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g. HSE requirements, COSHH, PUWER, manual handling).
- Conduct and regularly review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate H&S records and ensure documentation is audit-ready.

Facilities Management
- Oversee day-to-day management of the facility, workshop, and office environment.
- Ensure building infrastructure, utilities, and services are maintained effectively.
- Manage contractors and service providers (e.g. maintenance, cleaning, waste management).
- Plan and coordinate preventative maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with building safety regulations (e.g. fire safety, emergency systems, inspections).
Training & Awareness
- Develop and deliver health & safety training for employees, including inductions and refresher training.
- Ensure all staff understand their responsibilities and work safely.
- Support managers in promoting safe working practices on the shop floor.
Compliance & Auditing
- Carry out internal audits and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Act as the main point of contact for external inspections (e.g. HSE, insurers, auditors).
- Maintain and update compliance registers (e.g. equipment inspection, PPE, fire safety).

Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety and/or Facilities role, ideally within engineering, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and implementing H&S systems.
- Experience managing contractors and site facilities.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise effectively in a part-time capacity.
Desirable
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent H&S qualification).
- IOSH membership.
- Experience in SME environments.
- Familiarity with workshop environments or engineering processes.

- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Confident communicator, able to influence at all levels.
- Proactive and self-sufficient with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Calm and methodical, particularly when managing risk or incidents.
