Facilities Maintenance Manager
We are looking for a Facilities Maintenance manager to join our team and support our growth. The Facilities Maintenance and Compliance Manager keeps Animal Trust’s practices and hospitals safe, functional and ready to care for patients. This is a proactive, site-focused role combining planned maintenance with prompt resolution of day-to-day issues.
You will work alongside Practice Managers and Area Practice Managers, supporting their local ownership of maintenance with technical guidance, planning and contractor follow-through. You will report to the Director of Operations.
What you’ll do
- Manage planned maintenance, statutory inspections and facilities compliance, keeping accurate records and ensuring findings are addressed promptly.
- Visit sites regularly, maintain condition and asset records, and agree maintenance priorities with Practice Managers.
- Support Practice Managers with maintenance requirements, quotations and contractor arrangements, leading more complex issues where needed.
- Respond to urgent problems, prioritising safety, patient care and the ability of a site to operate.
- Oversee contractors, check appropriate safety documentation, monitor performance against SLAs and ensure work is completed safely and satisfactorily.
- Manage agreed maintenance budgets, forecast expenditure and flag potential overspend early, ensuring value for money.
- Use CAFM to maintain accurate maintenance, servicing and cost records, reporting overdue actions and recurring problems.
- Identify future replacement needs and provide information for CAPEX decisions.
- Bring new sites into the maintenance programme as the estate grows.

What you’ll bring
Essential
- Strong experience managing maintenance across operational, multi-site premises.
- Sound technical knowledge of building maintenance, health and safety, contractor management and facilities compliance.
- Experience managing maintenance budgets and controlling contractor costs.
- Experience using CAFM systems to track servicing, repairs, compliance actions and costs.
- Strong planning, record-keeping and communication skills.
- The ability to investigate problems, make sensible decisions and see work through without close supervision.
- IOSH Managing Safely training, or willingness to complete it within an agreed period.
- A full driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.

Desirable
- IWFM Level 4 or another relevant facilities-management or building-services qualification.
- A relevant NEBOSH qualification.
- Training in fire safety, asbestos awareness and water hygiene.
- Experience within veterinary or healthcare premises.
You will be a resourceful problem solver who is comfortable getting involved on site and supporting busy teams. You combine practical judgement with forward planning, know when specialist support is needed and take ownership of getting issues resolved.
Relevant ongoing training and development will be supported.
