As a FMA You Will:

  • Be IT literate and able to use a number of systems to report and log maintenance jobs and other systems as required to support the business needs.
  • Prepare rooms for meetings, conferences and other events to the agreed service level standards. Ensure audio visual equipment is set up, fit for purpose and ready to use, demonstrate correct operation and resolve any problems if necessary.
  • Ensure all furniture and equipment is cleared post event and secured safely taking into account health and safety and report any maintenance of equipment as required to FM Duty Leader.
  • Respond to out of hours’ maintenance requests in all accommodation that are a risk to health and safety and that could affect the security of others or impact on the comfort of the resident concerned. This would include such work as unblocking toilets, re-setting boilers or trip switches, replacing bulbs and being aware of potential fire hazards.
  • Be responsible for security of departmental vehicles during operational periods and for ensuring it is refuelled when necessary and complete a Transport Mileage form. Be responsible for the security of items during transit and ensuring those items are left in a secure and safe area on delivery following University Transport guidelines at all times.
  • Respond to cleaning requests and carry out overnight and weekend cleaning. Clean areas using the appropriate cleaning techniques, materials and equipment. Use cleaning equipment and materials correctly and safely in accordance with health and safety regulations and have a good understanding of relevant health and safety and risk assessments associated with work procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness and effectiveness of bin stores and support rubbish removal including general site cleanliness, to include litter picking, jet washing and general cleaning duties as requested.
  • On request from the Monitoring Room, assist security staff to respond to fire alarms, student disturbances and intruder reports. Provide high levels of customer care in dealing with complaints of student behaviour and difficult situations.
  • Complete COSHH, Manual Handling and Annual Fire Training and ensure health and safety protocols are strictly followed.
  • Hold a First aid at work certificate or willingness to undertake training to acquire this.
  • Report any cleaning equipment faults, damage or maintenance issues to the Cleaning Supervisor or Duty Leaders
  • Ensure the safekeeping of keys during working hours. Answer queries from students, staff and visitors in the building and cover the customer service desk as required overnight, training will be given where required to use relevant systems on the desk.
  • Sufficient knowledge to ensure competent response to routine work instructions and potential issues or willingness to undertake on the job training.
  • Maintain an awareness of the wellbeing of students and refer any issues to the Duty leaders as necessary.
  • Report any accidents or near misses to the Duty Leader.
  • Assist in water flushing and testing of empty buildings, logging the H&S records as appropriate and inspections of rooms following student departures in the summer.
  • Responsible for ensuring own safety and security and act in line with relevant health and safety regulations. This will include manual handling, safe use of equipment, wearing any necessary protective clothing and/or cordoning off areas if necessary.
  • As a member of our Professional staff you will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the professional behaviours set out in the Sheffield Professional Framework.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post

Further Information

  • Grade: 3
  • Salary: £32,490 based on 4x12hr shifts on and 4off this role attracts a rotating shift allowance which will increase the annual pay by 18%
  • Work arrangement: This role covers a 24/7 operation, working shifts on a four-on, four-off rota basis covering weekdays, weekends and nights.
