About Us
When a five-year-old boy was blinded after a regular eye exam failed to spot a retinal detachment, his father made it his life’s work to help eye care professionals by revolutionising retinal imaging.
Optos was founded by Douglas Anderson with the goal to make a patient-friendly device to capture a digital ultra-widefield image of the retina. Today, millions of patients around the world have benefited from optomap® retinal imaging.
Acquired by Nikon Corporation in 2015, Optos now operates within the Nikon Healthcare division. The company recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and is recognised as a leading provider of advanced imaging devices that support a more complete approach to patient care. Optos generates approximately $300 million in revenue, employs around 650 people worldwide, and manufactures 60% of its products in the UK.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
