Facilities Manager
Join the Avalon Centre as the Facilities Manager to lead the day-to-day management of the Facilities services. This is a key operational role, responsible for ensuring a safe, compliant and well-maintained environment that supports high-quality care for patients and an excellent workplace for colleagues.
Reporting directly to the Hospital Director, you will oversee all non-clinical site services, including Catering, Maintenance and Housekeeping, and manage a direct labour force to deliver efficient, reliable services. Using your specialist knowledge across estates and facilities disciplines, you will ensure services continuously improve and fully comply with all relevant legislation, policies and standards.
You will provide professional advice to clinical teams and colleagues on the facilities matters, ensuring environments remain safe, comfortable and fully functional. You will manage planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring inspection, testing and maintenance schedules are completed on time, within budget, and in line with warranty and insurance requirements. Accurate record-keeping, compliance documentation and standard operating procedures will be central to your role.
The position also includes responsibility for procurement and contractor management, leading on contract specifications, renewals and supplier performance in line with Elysium’s financial policies. You will secure and manage all required licences, warranties and insurance, and ensure delegated areas of responsibility operate effectively and lawfully.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
- A relevant HNC, HND or equivalent with an additional vocational qualification in one of the key electrical, mechanical or building trades.
- In-depth knowledge of UK Health and Safety Legislation, to include COSHH, LOLER, PUWER, RRFSO, Risk Assessments, FRAs, LRAs, etc. is required. A practical and in-depth appreciation of Hazard Analysis/Risk Assessments is essential.
- Experience of UK standards & regulations relating to facilities & estates management in a regulated environment (healthcare, defence, schools, manufacturing, etc.).
- A good understanding of plant equipment & building services to include, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, door access control, nurse call systems, fire detection systems, building management systems, etc.
- Contractor selection & management experience for both Hard & Soft facilities.
- Capital expenditure management experience to include annual budgeting & management, forecasting as well as asset replacement programmes.
- Experience supporting a catering team to ensure a safe and compliant kitchen as well as an understanding of HACCP, Food Safety Standards, etc.
- Ability to support the housekeeping team in IPC standards as well as aligning work with NHS Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness.
- Experience in producing, maintaining and reviewing policies and procedures such as SOPs, fire evacuation plans, Business Continuity Management Plans, etc.
- Must have the ability to motivate and lead a large multi-skilled workforce.
- Ability to communicate at various levels from Service Users & Care Assistants up to the Operations Director & CQC.
- Requirement to be on call and some out of hours work expected.
- Ability to recognise user need and develop services around needs.
- Experience in providing training to diverse user groups.
- Ability to manage a large and diverse workload to meet explicit standards and deadlines, establishing priorities and delegating to other staff as appropriate.
- The nature of the job will require the post holder to be generally physically fit.
- Hold a full UK driving licence

Where You Will Be Working

You will be working at The Avalon Centre, a purpose built neurological centre for men and women over the age of 18 years, who have an acquired brain injury.
The centre has been designed specifically to support people who, because of their injury, have challenging and complex needs and require a neurobehavioral rehabilitation programme.
