The postholder will provide senior operational leadership and management across a range of Hotel Services, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality non-clinical services that support patient care and organisational objectives.

The role will have managerial responsibility for the following service areas:

  • Portering Services
  • Domestic Services
  • Accommodation Services
  • Materials Management
  • Catering Services (partial responsibility)

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main Duties of the Job

The overall purpose of the job is to manage the provision of a range of Hotel Services within the acute and community hospital sites in a geographical area of the Health Board.

The Manager has responsibility for providing operational support of Hotel Services to the Head of Hotel Services and other members of the Senior Management Team.

The Manager will lead in identifying and implementing change, which contributes to direction and strategy. They will also be required to support and have specific responsibilities for achieving a quality service through the development and best use of teams.

Will be responsible for the co-ordinated operational management of a range of Hotel Services provided within the geographical area of responsibility, ensuring that the quality of the patient environment is maintained at all times.

They will be expected to develop policies following allocation of specific responsibilities, use resources effectively, and contribute to the wider activities and plans of the CPG, and the Health Board. They will deputise for the Head of Hotel Services as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Relevant business management degree or equivalent level of knowledge and significant relevant management experience
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional development at post grad level e.g. attendance at relevant formal structured courses, either short or long term. e.g. Post Grad Diploma, Prince2, NEBOSH, etc.
  • Relevant Management qualification, e.g. ILM Management level 5 or above and/or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

  • Masters degree or working towards it
  • PRINCE2 or other Project/Programme management
  • ECDL
  • Leadership course/qualification
  • Knowledge of Waste Management

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable experience in senior operational middle management in healthcare institution or related area
  • Demonstrate achievement of service improvement and financial controls
  • Practical employee relations experience including liaison with staff representatives and partnership working
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge acquired through a combination of in-depth working experience in complex cross-department activities
  • Experience of managing an office environment
  • Experience of budgetary management and production of business cases
  • Evidence of experience of managing financial transactions and the associated financial regulations

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Influencing consultation and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to initiate, implement and effectively manage change
  • An ability to prioritise competing demands for resources, time, and workload allocation.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills that are appropriate and understandable at all levels of the organisation.
  • IT skills to support general and self-management.
  • An awareness and appreciation of current issues relating to Facilities in the NHS
  • Ability to contribute to a strategic development of service within the site, and the Health Board as a whole
  • Knowledge of Statutory Regulations and Legislation relating to Health and Safety at Work, Risk Management, Facilities Services, Waste Management
