About the Role
Every day, Somerset Council delivers services that support residents, families and communities across the county. Behind those services are safe, secure and well-maintained buildings, and our Facilities Management team plays a vital role in making sure they remain welcoming and fit for purpose. The team supports a diverse portfolio of over 140 council and commercial buildings across Somerset.
As a Facilities Officer, you'll help create environments where colleagues, partners and residents can access the services they need with confidence. Working across a wide range of council buildings, you'll carry out important safety and compliance activities, respond to building issues and provide practical support to those who use our facilities. This is a varied and rewarding role where your work will make a visible difference every day, helping to keep people safe and ensuring services can continue to run smoothly. You'll join a supportive team that values initiative, teamwork and a shared commitment to serving Somerset's communities.
How You'll Make a Difference
- Carry out essential safety and compliance checks to help ensure council buildings remain safe, secure and legally compliant.
- Spot and resolve issues quickly, helping prevent disruption and maintaining positive experiences for staff, residents and visitors.
- Keep accurate records and compliance information up to date, supporting the effective management of our property portfolio.
- Coordinate access for contractors, colleagues and building users, helping projects and day-to-day operations run smoothly.
- Provide friendly, practical support and guidance to building users, helping create safe and welcoming workplaces across Somerset.

What You'll Bring
- Experience in a facilities, property, health and safety, compliance or similar operational environment.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and confidence maintaining accurate records.
- Good IT skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office and digital systems to manage information effectively.
- Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and provide great customer service.
- A proactive, flexible approach and the confidence to work independently, manage your own workload and travel between sites when required. A full driving licence is essential.

Further Information
This is a mobile, hands-on role involving regular travel between council sites across Somerset. You'll be comfortable working independently, carrying out inspections and compliance checks, responding to building issues and supporting the safe day-to-day operation of our buildings.
Flexibility is important, as occasional opening and closing duties may be required.
This role requires an Enhanced DBS check. First Aid and Fire Warden responsibilities form part of the role, with training provided where required.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. We are only able to proceed with candidates who already have the right to work in the UK without the need for visa sponsorship.
