Salary: £33,609 - £35,109 per annum (pro rata)

Location: Newham Dockside Hours: 14.4 hours per week (Thursday and Friday) Contract: Fixed Term for 24 Months Closing Date: Thursday 15 October 2026 at 23:59

Join Our Building Services Team

Building Services is recruiting for a part-time Facilities Officer to join our busy and customer-focused team at Newham Dockside on a fixed term contract – 24 months.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will support the day-to-day operation of one of the Council's key corporate buildings. As the first point of contact for visitors, residents, contractors, tenants and colleagues, you will provide a professional, friendly and welcoming presence while helping to ensure the building operates safely, efficiently and effectively.

This is a 24-month fixed-term position and an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within facilities management, customer services, or local government.

Please note that this is a fully site-based role. The successful candidate will work 14.4 hours per week on Thursdays and Fridays, with start and finish times varying as part of a rota system designed to ensure service coverage between 7:00am and 5:00pm.

About the Role

Facilities Officers play a key role in delivering services to internal colleagues and tenants at Dockside, as well as visitors, contractors and residents.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for all building users and visitors.
  • Providing a professional, friendly and welcoming reception service.
  • Delivering excellent customer service and resolving enquiries at the first point of contact wherever possible.
  • Undertaking routine building inspections and reporting issues.
  • Supporting the effective operation of building facilities and services.
  • Carrying out general administrative duties.
  • Using a range of IT systems, including bespoke facilities management and ID card systems.
  • Supporting health and safety compliance activities.
  • Undertaking Fire Warden duties.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and tenants to maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic, approachable and resilient individual who enjoys working with people and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.

Previous facilities management experience is not essential. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate the right personal qualities, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service. Training will be provided for the successful candidate.

You will have:

  • The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
