About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Facilities Operative to join our Aintree & Haydock Park Facilities Team. The role will carry out planned and reactive maintenance across our racecourse buildings, hospitality areas, stabling facilities, grandstands, offices and external areas. With a focus on joinery, plumbing and general building maintenance, you’ll help ensure our racecourses remain safe, operational and presented to a high standard throughout the year.

The Facilities Operative will
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the racecourse estate, ensuring buildings and facilities remain safe, operational and well maintained.
- Undertake joinery and carpentry repairs, including doors, locks, gates, fencing, seating, flooring, shelving and timber structures.
- Complete plumbing maintenance and repairs, including leaks, taps, toilets, sinks, pipework, valves, drainage and sanitary facilities.
- Carry out a range of general building maintenance, including patch plastering, tiling, minor decorating and fabric repairs.
- Inspect buildings, hospitality areas, public facilities, stables and external structures, identifying and resolving maintenance issues or escalating where specialist support is required.
- Prepare facilities for race days and major events, including installing, moving and dismantling temporary fixtures, barriers, signage, furniture and other event infrastructure, and respond quickly to any maintenance issues during events.
- Always Work safely and professionally, following health and safety requirements and racecourse procedures, maintaining tools, equipment and vehicles, and accurately recording completed work.
- Work closely with the wider Facilities team, racecourse colleagues, contractors and event organisers, supporting other trades as required and working flexibly, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and participation in an on-call rota.

About you
- Proven experience in facilities, property or general building maintenance, with hands-on experience in joinery and plumbing repairs.
- Good knowledge of general building fabric maintenance and safe working practices.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills, with the ability to diagnose issues and complete repairs effectively.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as being a supportive member of the wider team.
- Able to prioritise your workload and respond effectively to changing demands in a busy environment.
- Good communication and customer service skills, with a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- A good understanding of health and safety requirements relevant to maintenance activities.
- A flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and race days; experience within a sporting, leisure, hospitality or events environment would be an advantage.
