We are recruiting for a temporary Facilities Services Manager to oversee the delivery of facilities services across a multi-site estate.
This is a varied management role, responsible for leading a facilities operations team and ensuring a consistent, customer-focused service across multiple locations. You will oversee a range of soft FM services, manage contractor performance and support ongoing improvements to service delivery.
Working closely with senior management, you will play an important role in maintaining high standards, improving operational efficiency and ensuring facilities services meet the needs of staff, visitors and stakeholders.
The Role
- Provide day-to-day leadership to the facilities operations team, ensuring effective communication, workload planning and consistent service delivery.
- Oversee cleaning, waste management, postal services, room setups and general facilities coordination.
- Manage cleaning and waste contracts across multiple sites, monitoring service standards and contractor performance.
- Ensure KPIs, SLAs, budgets and compliance requirements are consistently achieved.
- Manage contractor relationships, identifying opportunities to improve performance and achieve cost efficiencies.
- Monitor contract finances, manage expenditure and identify opportunities to improve value for money.
- Support operational planning and develop improvement plans aligned with wider organisational objectives.
- Oversee health and safety compliance, including audits, risk assessments and corrective actions.
- Support incident investigations and ensure appropriate actions are taken to prevent recurring issues.
- Maintain accurate operational, compliance and audit records.
- Prepare monthly performance and financial reports for senior management.
- Support staff development, training and wellbeing, creating a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives, including energy efficiency, environmental improvements and the use of digital systems.
- Participate in an on-call rota as required, including during holiday periods and to support out-of-hours student requirements.

About You
We are looking for an experienced Facilities Manager with a strong background in operational facilities management, team leadership and contractor management.
You will have:
- Previous experience in facilities management.
- Experience managing and developing teams.
- Experience overseeing external contractors and service providers.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and complex activities.
- Experience producing reports and analysing data to support decision-making.
- A sound understanding of facilities management standards, regulations and compliance.
- The ability to manage financial resources and monitor budgets.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- A practical approach to problem-solving, conflict resolution and improving service delivery.
- A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to respond effectively to changing operational requirements.
- Experience within the higher education sector and managing external consultants would be beneficial.
- A relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience is required.

Additional Information
This is a full-time temporary position, initially on a six-month fixed-term contract, working 37 hours per week, with the possibility of extension subject to organisational requirements.
