The role

Working closely with the National Office Facilities Manager, you will coordinate and supervise the day to day work of the caretaking and cleaning team, including allocating work, managing schedules, monitoring service standards and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements. You will also work with colleagues across the operational team, support the Facilities Helpdesk and liaise with contractors, suppliers, visitors and other stakeholders.

You will bring experience of managing cleaning and caretaking teams and associated facilities services contracts, together with strong leadership skills and the ability to use your own initiative. You will be confident responding effectively to operational issues and emergencies, helping to ensure UNISON Centre remains a safe, welcoming and well-run environment for staff, members and visitors.

The person

What we’re looking for:-

  • Experience of supervising and leading cleaning, caretaking or facilities teams.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cleaning and caretaking services within a large, multi-purpose site.
  • Experience of coordinating work, allocating resources and managing competing priorities.
  • Experience of managing or supervising external contractors and facilities services contracts.
  • Ability to induct, train, support and develop staff, including monitoring performance.
  • Knowledge and experience of health and safety good practice and legislation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, contractors, visitors and operational colleagues.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills, including maintaining accurate records and information systems.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and unexpected situations, using initiative to resolve issues.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Commitment to equality and an understanding of UNISON’s values, movement and the environment in which we operate.
