About the role
A new opportunity has arisen for a Facilities Technician to join our team in Glasgow. This role is based on-site, and the post holder will be expected to be in the office five days per week.
Reporting to the Site Operations Manager, the Facilities Technician will play a pivotal role, working closely with the wider facilities team and scientists to ensure that our laboratories are in excellent working order, enabling our scientists to carry out their important work. They will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of stock levels, including that of chemicals, solvents, consumables, and department-specific supplies, ensuring inventory is up to date. This will include tracking and ordering goods, using relevant systems to manage tasks and monitoring shipments.

The Facilities Technician will also be responsible for the maintenance, cleaning, and basic repair of various pieces of scientific equipment ensuring Health and Safety standards are always followed. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Technician looking to work in a niche sector, or for a high school graduate with a scientific background looking to step into a CRO environment. We are looking for someone with a passion for science, who enjoys collaborating within a small team that ensures the site is always in working order.
Full training will be provided for the successful candidate.
Role Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a high level of Health & Safety awareness, ensuring safe working practices and compliance with policies, procedures, and legislation.
- Manage deliveries from various departments across the site safely and efficiently.
- Manage site waste streams, including solvent waste, clinical waste, Stericycle waste, recycling streams, and associated compliance requirements.
- Maintain emergency and safety equipment, including eyewash stations, safety showers, spill kits, fire safety equipment, and Legionella monitoring records.
- Replace and restock gas cylinders in accordance with approved safety procedures.
- Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures and maintain associated records.
- Ensure Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) records remain up to date and support power failure response activities.

Skills & Qualifications:
- Five National 5 qualifications or equivalent at grade C or above including English Language and Maths.
- Previous experience in a laboratory, warehouse, facilities or operational support environment welcome.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a problem-solving mindset.
- A can-do, enthusiastic work attitude.
- Able to work to deadlines in a safe and efficient manner – prioritising tasks as necessary.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- A good working knowledge of mathematics and IT – confident in the use of a variety of IT system, including Outlook, Word, Excel and ideally some experience of using purchasing systems.
