Associate Dean (AD-M)

The Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene (FSDH) is excited to announce the potential expansion to its MCPHS campus in Manchester, NH on July 1, 2027. The Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene (FSDH) seeks an Associate Dean (AD-M) to lead the dental hygiene program on the Manchester campus. Reporting to the Dean and working closely with the FSDH leadership team, the AD-M oversees academic and operational activities, including faculty assignments, classroom and laboratory planning, budget management, and resource allocation. The AD-M assists with hiring, onboarding, supervising, and evaluating adjunct faculty; contributes to strategic planning and school operations; and supports decision-making across the program. The position also includes teaching and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The AD-M is responsible for ensuring compliance with CODA accreditation standards and all applicable Board of Registration in Dentistry (BORID) regulations. This appointment is contingent upon the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) approval of the proposed program expansion. A decision on approval from CODA for this expansion is anticipated in March of 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for teaching academic courses at the graduate and/or undergraduate level, subject to institutional need. Specific teaching assignments are determined by the Dean.
  • Advise and support students through office hours, scheduled appointments, email, telephone, and other University-approved communication methods.
  • Maintain active involvement in research and scholarly activities commensurate with academic rank, including the development of peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and other scholarly work that supports and enhances teaching, service, and professional practice.
  • Support the integration of a humanistic environment within the curriculum and co-curricular experiences to broaden student learning and increase awareness of health disparities and healthcare access.
  • Participate in University, School, and professional service activities, including committee service, professional organization involvement, community engagement, University ceremonies, and student-focused activities.
  • Utilize the University’s learning management system (LMS) to post syllabi, assignments, course materials, assessments, and communications.
  • Provide service activities that include student mentoring, ongoing course development, curriculum enhancement, and assessment activities.
  • Contribute to the periodic review, evaluation, and revision of departmental courses and curricular offerings.
  • Provide accreditation-related information and program data as requested regarding teaching responsibilities, assessment activities, and administrative assignments.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge and expertise within the discipline through continuing education, professional development, and engagement with current evidence and best practices.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with organizations and stakeholders within the healthcare and higher education sectors.
  • Participate in collaborative programs, school, and institutional initiatives that support strategic goals and student success.

Requirements

Required

  • Doctoral degree preferred; candidates with a master's degree and significant relevant experience will be considered.
  • Eligibility for New Hampshire dental hygiene licensure and a Local Anesthesia permit.
  • Evidence of continuing education in educational methodology and teaching innovation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time faculty experience in dental hygiene education.
  • Prior experience as a dental hygiene program director preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of administrative experience in higher education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience as a dental hygienist.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of clinical teaching experience in dental hygiene education, including supervision of clinical teaching teams.
  • Experience teaching in graduate dental hygiene programs preferred.
  • Experience teaching in remote, hybrid, and online learning environments using virtual instructional platforms.
  • Demonstrated record of teaching excellence and commitment to student success.
  • Record of scholarly activity commensurate with an academic appointment, including presentations, publications, and other professional contributions.
  • Experience with CODA accreditation standards and program assessment, including managing or evaluating compliance requirements.
  • Commitment to undergraduate, graduate, and professional education, curriculum development, and student mentoring.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with healthcare organizations, community partners, and professional associations.
  • Commitment to fostering humanistic learning and working environments that values multiple perspectives and supports student success.

Physical Requirements

  • Work requires sitting, standing, and walking as part of classroom instruction.
  • In addition to being able to stand for 2-to-4-hour periods of time, must have the ability to participate in basic diagnostic and therapeutic maneuvers and procedures in the process of dental hygiene care is required.
  • Candidates must have sufficient motor function to execute movements reasonably required to properly care for all patients.
  • Candidates must be able to perform motor functions with or without assistive devices
  • Must be able to use technology, such as typing and manipulating a mouse/mouse pad
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
