Location: The Lodge Family Assessment Centre Hextable, Swanley, Kent
Salary: £30,784 – £32,510 per annum (dependent on grade and experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week, shifts across 5 days on a 7-day rota (including 2 weekends per month)

About the role
Are you passionate about keeping families together and giving children the safest possible start?
We're recruiting Family Assessment Practitioner Workers at Grade 1 to join our residential Family Assessment Centre in Swanley, Kent. You'll work alongside families during one of the most critical periods of their lives — observing, supporting, teaching and assessing parenting capacity in a residential setting.
This is hands-on, relationship-based work. Your observations and recordings directly inform decisions about children's futures, so accuracy, compassion and professional judgement matter enormously.
What you'll be doing
- Assessment support – Contribute to each family's weekly assessment plan through accurate, detailed daily recordings, and observe and document child–parent interactions to evaluate parenting capacity and family dynamics.
- Parenting skills development – Teach and model effective parenting practices, helping parents understand and meet their children's emotional and physical needs.
- Monitoring and evaluation – Track the impact of interventions on children's wellbeing and assess how parenting practices affect child development and safety.
- Family sessions – Facilitate and complete structured sessions in line with assessment plans and the Centre's framework.
- Centre operations – Support Centre Managers with the day-to-day running of the Centre, maintaining a high standard of childcare and house management.
- Safeguarding and compliance – Work within the Regulations and standards for Residential Family Centres and established frameworks for assessing children in need, identifying and escalating any safeguarding concerns promptly.

Grade 1 — £30,784 to £32,510
Ideal if you have some relevant experience and are working towards a Level 3 qualification, or are newly qualified. You'll focus on:

- Maintaining relevant observations of families in placement
- Keeping clear, detailed and accurate electronic records
- Identifying, recording and escalating safeguarding concerns
- Being a positive role model
- Advising and supporting parents to maintain safety
What we're looking for
Essential
- Experience in family support, social care or a related field
- Strong observational and documentation skills
- Ability to teach and model parenting practices
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding principles and child development
Desirable
- A relevant qualification in social care, childcare or psychology
- Experience in a residential or family assessment setting
