Family Solicitor (Legal Aid Finance Focus) – open to level | Kent or Essex | Very Flexible Working
Are you a Family Solicitor with experience in financial remedy matters looking for a role that offers flexibility, high-quality work, and the opportunity to make a genuine difference to clients?
A highly respected and long-established law firm is seeking a Family Solicitor to join its specialist team. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of one of the few firms with a strong reputation for undertaking Legal Aid finance work, offering access to a unique caseload that is increasingly difficult to find elsewhere in the market.
The Role
The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, with a strong emphasis on finance matters, including Legal Aid funded work.
The caseload will comprise approximately:
- 80% Legal Aid matters
- 20% privately funded work
Alongside finance cases, you will also handle:
- Private Children matters (both Legal Aid and privately funded)
- Domestic Violence/Injunction applications
Finance experience is essential for this role. The firm is open to considering solicitors from a predominantly private practice background who are interested in moving into a Legal Aid environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
